I went to Emory to get a CPAP. I went through their entire process to get one. The process took 90 days. I called them regularly for updates, but they did not return my calls. They did not order the CPAP machine in the time required by my insurance. So seven months into what should have been a three month process, they told me I had to start over. They did not apologize.
I have never met anyone in person and as you know these machine resend usage needs some hand holding. The nurse from nationwide was a joke as she did not have any device to demo. My doctor always video conferences me and his suggestion to tweak the machine, I don’t know how. Over last 2 years I have learnt by trial and error and several sleepless nights. They Never return calls. Wow if this is a leading Atlanta institution…we are in troubke I wanted all my records to be in one place but today I am forced to seek a private practitioner. Still lookin!!
I had a sleep study early 2021 Diagnosed with sleep apnea, requiring a CPAP machine. They said they put in an order for a CPAP machine . After 7 months of follow up and frustration, I just gave up. I wasn't getting any help or answers from Emory Sleep Center or the CPAP Vendor, they were both point fingers at each other. Recently, I decided to go at it agin. I've spent the last 90 days trying to get this CPAP machine. So much time had gone by, I had to have another DR Visit to restart the order process. After my visit - they said they reordered the CPAP machine. I still don't have the machine! The latest, per the CPAP Vendor, they're waiting on the Emory Sleep Center Dr to sign the Medical Necessity Form. I message them on their portal, I can see they read the messages date and time stamped but they never respond. This started in 2021- were now in 2023!
I've been going to Emory I think for nearly a decade now. I live in Michigan and it's been worth the effort to have Dr. Rye and to participate in a study with Dr. Trotti. If you have IH, don't hesitate to go here. They are the best around for this rare disorder and I love them!
No one returns my call for months. The prescription was sent in Nov 2021 and I still don't have an appointment to get that prescription filled.
It is hard to get an appointment here, no doubt. You may have to wait 6 months to finally get in. But, when you do, it’s TOTALLY worth it. I see Dr. Trotti and she is the first doctor I’ve had who I feel truly listens to me and takes the time to understand my medical history before looking at treatment options. I mean, she poured over EVERY medical chart and notes from my former specialists in completely different realms of health endocrinology, cardiology, primary, etc. before she even stepped in the room to meet me. She has all the updated info and research on sleep disorders which helped me in terms of access to medication that my former sleep doctor couldn’t give to me because he was working off outdated guidelines. I can not recommend them enough. Dr. Trotti and Dr. Rye are known as the best in the business for a reason.
If you want to have a sleep study done somewhere extremely disorganized to the point of receiving terrible care, then by all means, visit the Emory Sleep Center. If not, I highly suggest you find an alternative. I had my initial appointment which took months to get and was referred for a sleep study in October and they said someone would call me to schedule. When that never happened, I called to schedule and was told orders for a sleep study hadn't been submitted so they'd have to contact the doctor and call me back. It took two more calls on my part waiting on hold for 20 minutes each time to get it scheduled for March. I received no correspondence or information after that. The day of my sleep study, I had to call and ask what I should and shouldn't bring and unsurprisingly was told they were supposed to send me that info by mail or through the portal, but didn't. I had the sleep study and the only reason I'm giving two stars is because the staff there was great. At the end they tell me I'll get my results at my follow up appointment. What follow up appointment? This is the first anyone mentioned a follow up appointment. So I call to schedule the follow up appointment and am told I can't get one for two months. Not only that, it's at an extremely inconvenient time for me, but it'll be 3 months if I don't take the offered appointment. The person who schedules it tells me they should've scheduled my follow up while scheduling the sleep study, but clearly I'm the one who has to suffer due to their incompetence. I had the sleep study due to a serious heart arrhythmia during sleep, but no rush I guess. I'll just wait months for my results because of their incompetence.
This sleep study center is the worse part of the Emory network. I don’t know if they need more staffs or what but anything little thing you want to do take months. They made me wait 2 months to go to the lab to do a sleep study. Now, they want to take 2 additional ones to give me the damn results. If I did not need a sleep study, trust me, I would have never spent the time, money and energy to do one. I feel like they think it’s a game. I’m tired of that place, I really should have gone somewhere else. Any other Emory health care service is good but stay away from that sleep center if all you want is for things to get done in a timely manner.
Terrible response time poor patient care. They did not listen to my concerns regarding mask leaks and tried to assure me that it was normal. It WAS NOT normal. It took over a month or resolve this issue due to them trying to put off my concerns. Also, there were concerns from the cardiologist regarding oxygen levels during therapy, however, it took them 3 months to get the equipment to check night time oxygen levels, then three weeks and three messages to get a report of abnormal oxygen levels at night. Now they are saying oxygen is needed at night as well, but offered no information as to why or what could be happening. This is the worst experience I have had with Emory. I'm currently seeking other options! Save yourself a headache and go elsewhere!
They won’t return phone calls and they won’t put you through to someone in charge. They made my return appointment for 92 days after starting on CPAP. Medicare rules state it has to be before the 91st day or we have to start all over again with a new sleep study. Called to reschedule, no earlier appointments available, was told someone would call me back. Heard nothing, called a week later, same story, no callback. Escalated to Patient Advocacy office. Someone finally left me a message but when I called back she was “unavailable”. Still waiting.
