Essex Steam Train

My boyfriend and I took the dinner train and absolutely loved it, what an amazing experience! The train is beautiful and comfortable and the service is splendid. You have some great views on the Connecticut river and you can even go out on the observation deck in the back, which is really cool! The food is not the best you’ll ever have but it’s good nevertheless. I would recommend taking a sweater with you because it is very, very cold on the train!

Our little one was literally speechless almost the entire time. He's usually talkative, but this experience blew his mind. The rides are free with the ticket, and he had a great time there, too. I appreciate that they sort of separate the two "main" trains away from the rest of the rides and attractions, which sort of spreads out the crowd and makes things less crowded when it's busy. The free train ride from the parking lot was unexpectedly awesome with a conductor who engaged in fun conversation with our little one. I forget his name, but he made our son super happy. Kudos to him and the friendly folks who run the trains regularly.

Day out with Thomas 2018 and these guys do it up right. They handle the large crowds with ease. They are very courteous. The ride was as smooth as can be. We went last year for this event and it's been consistent. We will probably be back next year as well. You should go too

Ride first class. Very comfortable. Boat ride was very informative. It is about 2-1/2 hours when you do the training/boat combo. Had a great time. We will be back for a dinner train ride.

A great place that takes a history museum, entertainment venue and theatrical performance and combines it into one. Depending on what event you choose to do, you will be taken back into time in their 1920's - 1930's rolling stock depicting what train travel was like. Always a recommendation to stop by and see the simple but complex Steam engine pulling the train. My wife and I have always enjoyed the daily train and riverboat experience and we annually celebrate our anniversary on the Essex Clipper Dinner Train, a great experience and views of the CT river. For kids, I recommend Day out with Thomas, River and Boat, and Gillettes Castle. For adults check out the dinner train.
