My Min Pin has a cataract, I was referred by my vet in CT. I felt the staff was less than pleasant with my dog and myself. After a 20 min office visit I was informed the cost for a cataract surgery would be $4500. I was floored! Than ck out.... $199.00 0ffice fee with NO prior notice!!!! No thanks I am not rich !! This guy was just a rip off!! And I drove from CT, absolutely no consideration for my dog or myself! The whole experience was torture!!!! I have to put one star or this will not post. I give this whole staff a big Negative!!!!

My Pekingese developed a detached retina resulting in increased IOP (intraocular pressure). She was started on glaucoma eye drops, however initially the pressure continued to go up. Dr. Neaderland suggested the intravitreal cidofovir injection procedure in which an antibiotic fluid is injected directly into the eye to stop the production of fluid -- with the two benefits being an immediate lowering of the pressure and less pain for my dog. On the down side, the procedure would result in complete loss of sight in that eye. I continued to give the eye drops while we waited three days for the procedure. Turns out that, by the day of the procedure, the pressure had dropped significantly (to less than half) but I was not informed and the procedure was performed anyway killing any chance of my dog ever seeing again in that eye. Fyi, the eye was clouded with blood so there was no way to see the extent of the damage from the detached retina, so I will forever wonder if her vision may have made a comeback. In my mind, it is like your child having a root canal thereby permanently killing a tooth, but finding out after the fact that the antibiotics were starting to work. According to several articles on the Internet, this procedure is typically best suited to dogs with chronic pressure issues, rather than an acute issue like a detached retina. I would think twice before having this procedure performed on my pet again, especially if it is not a chronic problem like chronic glaucoma. Time may have been a better option in my dog's case, however I will never know. Would have been much happier if I was told the pressure dropped prior to the surgery.
