Facial recognition cameras in aisles now, and ID scans for alcohol even if you’re over 40. Staff is super bossy and grabby with the IDs. It feels intrusive. I’ve always loved this store and shop exclusively at Freddie’s. But this has me feeling like one more thing where corporations have their hands in your business and back pocket. I cherish my autonomy and I’m a friendly face in the community. And now I feel like some kind of stranger and it’s also very triggering.
I don't like Fred Meyer just sorta grabbing your ID and scanning it into the computer without your consent to buy cough medicine ..... It's unconstitutional..... So I've been getting mine pretty cheap off Amazon
I get that the shopping carts need to have the locking wheel to prevent theft but this Freddy's needs to increase the range or something. If you are parked in the farthest parts of the parking lot, the cart will lock up on you before you get to your car. Today the elevator was out of order and I had to park upstairs because there were no spots on the ground level. So I had to push my highly full shopping cart up the car ramp to get it upstairs to my car. Well, the wheels locked up on the ramp and I had to lift the front up as best I could and drag the cart up the car ramp and to my car. It was exhausting and I hate Freddy's even more now.
Coming from Michigan where we have Kroger, Fred Meyer was the place to shop! Great selection of all kinds of foods, things and brands. Huge store. Very clean and friendly staff. Had someone ask me if I needed help finding anything. Very great prices! Enjoyable experience. Big store but sections are well labeled. Easy to find what you need.
I just had one of the WORST experiences at this store. It's pouring rain outside and the elevators are down. I was forced to park in the upstairs lot because the bottom lot was full. After finishing my shopping, I had too many groceries to carry them up the escalator a worker very rudely told me I could not bring the cart on the escalator SO instead I figured ok I'll get a little wet but I can walk the cart up the outside ramp to my car. NOPE!! Turns out the wheels lock on the ramp so that you cannot push the cart up or down the ramp. I'm stuck in the pouring rain trying to drag this cart anywhere I can at this point. Nobody that works at Fred Meyers was even remotely helpful, in fact it looked like they were actively trying to avoid doing anything. IF YOUR ELEVATORS ARE DOWN INCREASE THE RANGE ON YOUR CARTS.
Store is constantly a mess and lacking the most basic items you'd expect from a grocer. Prices are much higher than other stores in the area. It's constantly understaffed. Doors for public transit and pedestrians are randomly locked and closed. Frequently lacks baskets and carts.
This FRED MYER has very RACIST PRACTICES Please Read While I was shopping at the Hawthorne store last night, with my noticeably Hispanic girlfriend, I watched her be mistreated by white woman at the self check out nearest to Hawthorne street. For context, we are older, grandmothers, and grew up in the Hawthorne area. My fried moved to Prineville, but is back in Portland for her mothers funeral this weekend. When we went to check out I noticed the employee at self check staring my friend down intensely. Her focus on my friend was so intense that the employee didn’t notice that I needed help getting the sale price for an item. After my friend then payed for her groceries, my friend began to eat some yogurt bite she had bought, then threw her receipt in the trash. The Fred Myers employee then went directly to the trash can to dig my friends receipt of the garbage, and proceeded to check what items my friend bought. I was COMPLETELY ALARMED, DISGUSTED, and EMBARRASSED by what I was seeing. This Fred Meyers employee was profiling my friend as a thief because of her noticeable Hispanic ethnicity, and dark brown skin. I had opened my yogurt, but the employee did not do that to me, a blonde white woman. Prior to this, I have seen other situations at this store where they have been very un-kind to other people of color. This time really took the cake for me, hence me writing this review. Another time, I saw a woman who is employed at this Fred Myers wearing a shirt that said, “SAMBO”, inside the store. “SAMBO” is a racial slur for African Americans. I even found a past review someone els gave that noticed the same issue. I attached a picture of it to my review. It’s just deplorable that any store in this area would allow this kind of behavior to perpetuate after everything that Portland has been through during the 2020 protests due to racist practices. This store should be ashamed of it’s self, and needs to DO BETTER.
This change in review is for the pharmacy. You are better off going to Walgreens. The department is understaffed. If you have an abundance of time to kill feel free to wait for an hour plus.
this use to be my favorite location, until recently i got sushi and the sushi lady followed me around the whole store while i had my sushi in hand. i wanted to see if she would follow me around more, so i went upstairs and there she was behind me on the escalator. i walked by her and stood there for a minute and she tried calling security, my friend and i confronted her, to which she accused me of harassing her, and said “your kind do this often.” as a brown person, i will NEVER come back here if she is still working. if you are brown, arab or anything of the sort i advise you don’t come here if you don’t want to be profiled.
My favorite thing about this store is the kid in the deli that refuses to speak. If you hate your job that much, find a new one dude. So maybe do that or grow up. How hard is it to say, "what would you like?" Apparently for you, it's impossible.
