What can one say about a place that’s been around for over 100 years? From the well worn steps to the classic old school bar and dinning room this place reeks of authenticity. The regulars have their regular seats but we like eating at the bar by the window watching the neighbours go by. Never change
One of the best restaurants in NYC. Every dish is delicious and priced better than you will find in any restaurant. They are unbelievably affordable, have a huge menu, and their desserts are out of this world. Their chocolate mousse cup is the best I've ever tasted in all of Manhattan. Their gluten free Penne aka vodka was awesome. Their plate sizes are very generous. This is one of the best hidden gems in all of Manhattan.
Amazing service and ambience, food is simple but great and I highly recommend trying the zabaglione for desert! Overall a great experience.Food: 4/5
A rare slice of old New York. It is a joy to sit at the bar at Gene's and slowly get stupid, and the food is excellent. I recommend the mussels and the baked clams, but everything is good.Recommended dishesClams
The original “old school” Italian Restaurant serving very good dinners with great service. I thought I was back in 1960. This is an iconic spot and a fun place to dine.
I'm originally from Maine and stopped in spontaneously after my art show reception. Welcoming environment and good food!Food: 5/5
Decent Italian food located at 11st and 6th Ave. In the Village. We had a large group of 13 and the wait staff accommodated as well. I had the Blue Point Oysters as an Appitizer, 6 for $15.95 and they were excellent. My antre was the linguini with clam sauce. The clams were large with a nice texture. A decent amount of fresh garlic but the penne was a bit overcooked. I have had better pasta but the claims were great. I did not sample any desserts. The food that others ordered looked good, but none of the preparations looked over the top great. I did taste a meatball and it was a bit over done with a rather bitter taste. I have been told their specialty is the veal chop, but that did not interest me at the time as I am not a veal fan. If in the area, this place has a long history and is worth checking out.
fettuccine with prosciutto was one of the best pastas i’ve had in my life pesto gnocchi was extremely herbaceous sooo good!! and hello montepulciano must try!!!
After a more than 60-minute late flight, we sped walked to Gene's. They were so gracious, professional and warm even though we were "those" people who come in with 45-minutes before close. The wine service, table service, ambiance, and food are top notch. Highly recommend. If you must be "those" people, be quick and tip 50%.Food: 5/5
