Tucked away is the Fogotten Founder George Mason Memorial. The peaceful gardens and water feature is worth visiting. It is located in a quiet corner of the East Potomac National Park and near the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.
A difficult monument to find and walk to. There is a nice water feature here and some seating but the roar of the nearby highway makes it a less than pleasant space and doesn't encourage lingering or reflection. George Mason deserved a better monument than this.
It was my first time in years of living here that I have experienced this memorial. It’s a nice place to sit and learn a bit of history. It’s right near the tidal basin and next to Thomas Jefferson memorial. I would recommend you checking out this memorial!
Don't forget about George Mason, the forgotten founding father. I was immediately impressed by the nice pond and gardens leading up to his statue. I didn't no much about him but reading his quotes around the memorial he seemed to be ahead of his time. Definitely check this out after visiting the Jefferson memorial.
Maintenance and upkeep of this fountain and memorial has improved. The plaques don’t mention one of the most interesting things about Mason: he refused to sign the Constitution and his disent was and is influential on political thought. Take some time to read his page on Wikipedia.
This is a fairly small comparitively monument of the "Forgotten Founding Father." I've only been to it at night, but I was the only one there. Hell, I think I was the only person within half a mile. It's pretty near TJ's monument, so you can catch them both.
Not crowded at all. A great place to relax for a little while and read up on one of our forgotten founding fathers. I would recommend stopping by if walking around the Tidal Basin.
Very easy to miss/forget with the other giant memorials in the DC area. The is a really well done memorial it is one of my favorites. I will say it does tend to be neglected a bit with broken dirty benches, untrimmed hedges, and a sort of raggity feel. It does not feel up to par with the other national monuments in the area which is why I recommend everyone to go show support for the nice little park. It does have it's upsides if you were one of the people like me who walked everywhere it is a great place to stop and rest and admire the DC area from afar. Before making your way back to the mall area. Overall I would recommend you make your way here but make sure you stop to see the Jefferson on the way.
Awesome for the family lots of history
This Memorial is often overlooked, but it has a nice garden to accompany it. when we visited someone picked some daisies and put a bouquet in George’s hand.
