Really beautiful memorial. Lovely and spacious which is great when it’s really busy with a lot of people. The steps are great for a rest and it’s lovely walking around the lake with the cherry blossom trees. Some nice inscriptions on the wall too. There are also construction works going on so bare that in mind for photos. Also the lighting of the sun was In the wrong place so getting a photo of the memorial is hard Everything in DC is actually very far away from each other so I’d recommend doing a circle. Washington monument >> WWII >> Jefferson >> Lincoln >> White House.
I went during the cherry blossom festival. This was my first time experiencing this memorial and it didn’t disappoint! It’s beautiful up close and much bigger than I thought. I went in the morning when it was raining and there wasn’t a huge crowd. The weather most likely kept people away. It’s spacious and there’s enough room for everyone to look around in their own space. It’s definitely a spot you need to check out for yourself!
What a stunning building and statue. The words inscribed on the walls are inspirational and still hold true. This is a MUST stop when making the rounds from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument. The lake between these 3 sites is the where the majority of the cherry blossom trees are, so it’s a stunning walk.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
It was almost dark when we arrived and there were not a lot of lights inside other than some accent lights. The statue is huge and really something to see. Just the overall size of the room and all the columns is amazing. There are also great views of the Washington memorial from the front stepsVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
I did it for the exercise. 5.10 miles loop trail on All Trails. I recommend it as a way to explore while getting a little workout. Beautiful scenery but tourist everywhere lol Parking may be hard to find during Cherry Blossom blooming season.
Pretty nice spot. Clean and secure. There was a security guard there watching over everyone. There was some construction going on which constrained the pathway into the memorial but it didn’t cause any problems or congestion or anything. I was there around dusk and there were still a good deal of people there but again that didn’t hinder checking it out or reading any of the information. Overall I really enjoyed it! It’s way bigger inside than it looks from the outside.
Definitely worth it if you ah e the time. Apologies for the little rant but this what you may expect during peak season. There is a lot of construction going on right now near the memorial but it’s still gorgeous. It’s also peak season for Cherry Blossoms—— AND wedding season. Tons of couples getting their pictures taken so they end up being in the way a bit and you have to go around the sidewalk and/or wait until they decide their pictures look amazing - I only say this because I counted about ten couples across that section of the Tidal Basin and on top of that tourists. Mind you this was at 7-8am, so it was already pretty packed. If you don’t like large crowds- avoid early mornings Please be courteous to everyone regardless of what they are doing there. It only takes a couple of seconds to snap a photo so just be patient. the nearest parking National Mall Lot A & B were already full by 6:30a on a Friday, the other parking off of Maine Ave was closed even thought the sign said closed 3/21 no one had taken the cones away and it was creating more of a traffic jam.
We wanted to see the Jefferson Memorial and the cherry trees in full bloom before the construction cut down some of the cherry trees. There was some construction around the memorial, and only one way into see Jefferson. It was a little crowded but not too hard to get around.
You can get your dose of exercise by going up the stairs. It’s not too bad. After you reach the top, you’ll see a statue of Thomas Jefferson. He was the third president of the United States, a Founding Father, and primary author of the Declaration of Independence. If you look around at the walls, you’ll see some of his quotes. Admission is free. Definitely less crowded than the Abraham Lincoln Memorial. You’ll get some crowds but it’s not bad. You also get an amazing view when you look out.
Incredible monument to one of the most brilliant human minds in all of history. Cherry Blossoms are nearly at full bloom, which makes the area even more gorgeous. I think it's fitting that Thomas' statue is facing D.C. looking right at the Washington Monument and The White House. As if he is eternally watching the government. I can't help but wonder how disgusted he would be if he were still alive today.
