Interesting find in Tidal Basin walk, quite a read if you are fascinated with history and how this piece of art arrived here!
Japanese Pagoda 3,800 lbs, the 17th century statue as a gift of friendship between the Japan and the United States on April 18, 1958.
A small stone statue given to Washington, D.C. by the mayor of Yokohama, Japan. This small monument is located close to the FDR Memorial so it's easily overlooked, however you should definitely stop and appreciate the view and the generosity of others.
Proxy review for FDR Memorial I like it, it's a detailed monument. Features sculptures of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, his wife Eleanor Roosevelt, and his dog, in addition to segments highlighting the Great Depression and the CCC, as well as various quotes. Personally, I believe that the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial might be more captivating than the nearby more famous Jefferson Memorial since it showcases more about the subject and highlights a larger scope.
Beautiful spot for the Japanese Pagoda.
Very weird to find something this small when you are looking on the map for something else more magnificent. None the less, while you are walking along the tidal shore it does look awesome.
This pagoda is very aesthetically pleasing, and the accompanying information about the symbolism behind pagodas and the history behind this gift from Japan is also interesting. That said, there isn't that much space to observe the pagodas without being blocked by the trees, and there isn't a great view from the benches so the area around the pagodas isn't really built for reflection or extended appreciation. Given that, I'd recommend seeing this given that there are a lot of other attractions nearby, but it's not worth making the trek from downtown just to see this item.
Unfortunately I was not here when the cherry blossoms, but the location of the surroundings is very well maintained and showy beautiful
Beautiful place but no parking found
Beautiful place to stop and sit
