Gilley's Diner

This is a Portsmouth fixture. I get a cheese dog while waiting for a cheeseburger. Loaded. Only Flo's has better dogs and they have limited hours. Gilley's is right in the center of things on the seacoast and is open until the wee hours of the morning. If you're going out drinking in Portsmouth you MUST end the night with some incredible food and people watching at Gilley's.

Funky, small ( holds 8 people) 1940s dining car serving up delicious food, burgers and fries. Great prices and portions are good. Chili fries were excellent...if I were younger this would be my go to after a night of drinking but now it is a guilty pleasure I won't tell my doctor about..lol

Amazing food. First time there. The hours are a little funky right now while they replace a cook. Very small interior but cozy. You can get your food to go as well.

I had beans and hot dogs late at night. The beans were indeed homemade but they had way too much molasses in them and we're there for too sweet. They also need a little bit of salt. The hot dogs were terrible as always. Plastic. But at least something went into your stomach.

I went to this place based on it's reputation as a local icon. I loved it's look and vibe but the food that I had (single burgers and chili fries) was just alright. Still, I am glad that I went and I would certainly go back. Next time I will get the dogs!
