The Common Man

This place was absolutely rockin'. It's hard to hear in the busy hours, though, in different areas of the restaurant. While I felt our waitress's voice was swallowed up by the walls and patron chatter, the rest of the visit was enjoyable, timely, and a great (affordable!) price. Hit this place up in your travels.

Don't get the haddock! Poor value and quality! Went to the Common Man about 5 years ago was very disappointed with the quality and value, tried again tonight and it was worse than I remembered. First the staff was excellent and friendly. The problem is the food portion and quality. We ordered 2 haddock with crab stuffing on top $47.98. It was terrible. Basically on fillet cut in half so small portion, and if you get the tail end small and very thin. Cooked in some type of oily butter very tough to tell. topped with a mush that may have had crab strained through it. Then everything fish, potato and green beans covered in some type of runny of putting thousand island dressing. Ruined everything, completely inedible. This is New England you will have to do far better than that. Should have saved my money and gotten a Filet-0-fish. It would have been fresher and less oily. I will never go back again and you shouldn't either.

We'd heard great things about these restaurants. The atmosphere was nice. The food was okay, but I expected better for the price. The portions are decent. I just don't feel the experience lived up to all the hype. I was excited about going; but now I'm not sure I want to go back.

Was my favorite place to call out and get some real food rather than subs, etc... I don’t walk well due to an old injury that has gotten worse over time. I haven’t been able to order from The Common Man because they won’t bring it to the car if you pay ahead of time. I can understand the girls don’t want to go outside it’s just too bad I can’t get food here anymore. Mark used to bring my order out if I was having a bad day. Maybe the valet gentlemen wouldn’t mind, they would get more tips. I just want a really great burger and it’s a whole different world when you get a common man cheese burger! Sad.

The best part of this experience was that our server Annie was extremely friendly. My friend and I ordered the escargot and it must have been left under the broiler too long because the cheese on it was burned. We ate it anyway. We both also ordered prime rib medium and it came out bloody. I asked our server to take my friend's prime rib back because I knew he wouldn't eat it like that. I ate mine away only because I can tolerate medium rare. Then a water leak from the ceiling started falling right next to my friend onto the floor and the staff were so nonchalant about it that I had to say something to them about putting up a yellow wet floor sign before somebody got hurt. They said that's why they have the tablecloth on the floor. I was kind of shocked at that answer! I said that a tablecloth on the floor is dangerous too because somebody can trip over that and you really need to put a yellow wet floor sign up before somebody falls and get seriously hurt. Eventually they put one up. My friend and I go to Common Man restaurants all the time. Usually it's a great experience. I was very disappointed at our experience at the one in Windham. I don't know if they had a new cook who really didn't know what he or she was or what the case was, but for the price you pay in that place you deserve to have your food cooked the way it's supposed to be.
