Goldmoor Inn

Fabulous place. Recently remodeled in 2008, they have great views of the river. Its about 12 minutes away from downtown Galena, an easy, fun drive. The menu is simple but classy. The Beef Wellington was seriously amazing. We almost ate there the following night...

Superb breakfast, stellar service, excellent clean rooms. Why not a five star? ... Although the effort was there, I came away not feeling that close personal connection with the hosts. If the Goldmoor Inn was advertised as just a hotel I could easily give it a five star. However I stayed under the impression it was a Bed and Breakfast and in my experience that's a lot more than refined life style/upper class living. Not once did I feel that the Inn and grounds were mine to explore. At breakfast the guests were sat at distant tables as if to discourage the family feel you should be getting from a Bed and Breakfast. On a positive note excellent view of the Mississippi River and a plurethera of birds to view from Woodpeckers to Cardinals and blue Jays all visible from your breakfast table.

I can't say enough good things about this place. We were personally greeted by the owners and check in on several times. The room was beyond amazing, and the grounds as a whole are stunning. When we first pulled up, the treeline gave us a kind of ow reveal of the inn, and as soon as we passed the corner and saw the turret, we both gasped in awe. This is not only one of the nicest places I've ever had the pleasure of staying at, but the people were incredible, as well. I literally can't think of a single downside to this inn.

The location of the hotel is wonderful. It sits on top of a hill looking over the Mississippi River. We stayed in the English cottage which looked over the Mississippi. It feels very private, and is only 15 minutes from downtown. The English cottage is wonderful. A king size bed, hot tub and fireplace all in the main room. There's also a screened in porch and a private driveway only for the cottage. The hotel offers breakfast included in the room rate Wich you can have in the dining room or delivered to your room. The food is wonderful. The restaurant in the hotel has some of the best food I've had in a long time. This is a wonderful place for a romantic getaway.

Goldmoor is about 13 miles south of Galena on one of many bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. The rolling, twisting road to get there is no place to be after dusk due to the heavy deer population. Goldmoor is a beautiful, unique inn...inside and out. The well decorated suites are spacious, clean and well maintained. The food was fantastic...the service superb. It is the perfect place to get away from the "hussle-busstle" world. And it was worth the money. We enjoyed our 2 night stay tremendously and plan to return.
