Our stop at Guilder was surprisingly tasty. I expected to stop in for a cup of coffee, but ended up sitting down to an interesting roasted vegetable breakfast burrito. The ingredient ratio was unlike any other breakfast burrito I’ve eaten where the egg is the star of the dish, but I appreciated the extra veggies. The coffee was good and the chocolate almond scone was like a marriage of scone and glazed donut.
So good! Really cute themed references for a fan but not in your face/over the top. Food was delicious, service was warm and friendly. Beckett in particular was so sweet and helpful with recommendations! The space was also very cozy. Wish I lived here and could come more often. Vegetarian options: Plentiful and delicious! Dietary restrictions: Many vegetarian and vegan options
As someone who is by NO MEANS a vegetarian, much less a vegan, I have to say this place is amazing! If you wouldn't have told me my breakfast burrito was vegan yes I added egg I wouldn't have even known. No, I'm not being converted from being a carnivore. The veggies were cooked perfectly, still had just enough crunch and they weren't mush. The ethically sourced coffee was stupendous! Knowledgeable baristas that had my espresso at the perfect temp, were super pleasurable to just chat with. Big time LGBTQIA+ friendly, feel free to ask for proper pronouns Gotta say, the Princess Bride references are what brought me here. The food and folks working here will bring me back. Some days I go to places like Fogo de Chao, other days I find awesome little gems like Guilder.
What a creative and fun coffee house. I love the theme of the Princess Bride movie! The espresso here is very smooth and rich, really loved it. Lots of vegan breakfast options too.
I needed to grab lunch to-go and Guilder had been on my list to try for a while ‘cause it looks ~so cute~ online. My “Inconceivabowl” came out before my coffee, which leads me to believe it was packaged earlier that day or week. I was immediately disappointed at the sight of it. I’m convinced I could’ve picked something up at the grocery store deli for half the price. My expectations were not high but somehow this cold grocery store slop still missed them. In addition, the seasonal iced latte “Miracle Pill” was bland. If I ever find myself here again, perhaps if I am drugged and blindfolded, I will order differently.
Awesome Princess Bride inspired cafe. Food is great, excellent pastries and light plates, good coffee and drink options, along with wonderful music the Jam, Richard Hell, Buzzcocks, Dictators on the Sunday morning I visited. It’s got an airy open setting, with modern Scandinavian sensibilities. Guilder’s has been my wife’s preferred coffee shop as it’s a short walk from home, but I will definitely be coming back too. Vegetarian options: Vegan options. Kid-friendliness: Lots of families. Dietary restrictions: Vegan and gluten free options.
Friendly staff and delicious pastries that are delivered fresh a few times per week. The full menu offers Princess Bride themed dishes that don't disappoint. The quality of ingredients and the satisfying tastes definitely make up for the smaller portions. Love this place!
My go to coffee shop in NE Portland. The coffee and coffee drinks are delicious. They actually have fruity/floral light roast coffees which I've found to be hard to find here in the PNW. They also have solid food choices and good pastries. Best of all, The Princess Bride vibes are good.
My experience at Guilder today was akin to wandering through the Fire Swamp drenched in lighter fluid. The staff appeared offended that we’d wandered in to order with 20 minutes of open kitchen time remaining never mind the kitchen was closed early but they failed to mention that small detail until 30 minutes had gone by. Im not sure Miracle Max could work enough magic to sprinkle some sense of good customer service into the individual working the counter. Thankful we at least got a refund and lost only one hour of our lives stuck in the Pit of Despair today. Anyways, looking at these other reviews it seems this place has good days, we just caught it on fire swamp day. I’m also just scratching my head why a place tries to theme itself on Princess Bride but also goes mostly vegan name one vegan in the movie!.
Found them on google maps, drove for 20 mins and arrived at 4pm for a quick take out snack only to get the news “Oh our Kitchen is closed.” Q: why advertise your biz is open till 5 when your kitchen is closed at 4pm? This is why cafes go out of business. They offer an attractive look online , waste customer’s time who travel to try their services and then greet them with a lame passive aggressive excuse.
