Hollywood Shoe Repair

From what I understand this is the only place with materials to recraft Birkenstocks right now. He did a good job. I am happy to have 2 of mine repaired as the cork was a disaster. I'm not wowed. To me it looks like the minimum was done. The leather wasn't cleaned, glue is showing in many places, the leather was ground in several places and it looks like it was cut on one side but we'll see how that plays out. I had to let my buckles out 1 space on both sandals from where I originally wore them because they were so tight after finished. Not sure if that's normal. Overall, if you want to bring life back into your Birks quickly, I dropped them off Wednesday, picked up on Friday, this is a good way. It was $95 per pair so I saved the $110 it would cost to buy 2 new pairs. CASH ONLY! Another thing that bothered me was my black ones were platforms. The sole was a layer of white and black. He said it would cost another $100. I declined and took them down to Arizona style. Disappointing. Those can't be found anywhere now but $205 to recraft a single pair is bizzare. Not sure it was $95 worth. I would probably buy a new pair next time, not sure yet.

Had my Danners for a year and half working construction and they were falling apart, came to Hollywood Shoe repair and Alex did an amazing job for great price. Definitely will come again. Thank you Alex.

I came in to have shoes shined for an interview. For Portland, this place definitely has an anachronistic feel to it. It's almost refreshing how different the shop feels from the prevailing culture, and how old fashioned. The shop owner has a different communication style from what you may be used to and I'm not gonna lie I can easily see how there could be misunderstandings. If you have the patience to empathize with an older man single-handedly running a small, local operation then the reward is high quality work and very reasonable prices.

I was sure they'd be declared a lost cause, but Alex replaced the soles of my blown out Birkenstock sandals AND repaired the cork in several places, and he did it in one day! They are functionally new, but for $40 less than the cost of replacing them AND with no new footbed to break in. Amazing and fast! Cash or check only.

Appreciated his frankness when I brought in my favorite platform pumps that could not be repaired. THRILLED when he was able to resole some of my favorite boots for $75 cash or check only! – I’d have paid at least as much to replace these discontinued boots, and the new soles are much higher quality than the originals. He also gave the boots a nice little shine. Love that this service is available to us!

I called for a simple repair. I don't drive so I said that I would mail them in. He said he doesn't go to the post office; "too complicated" he said.

I have 2 pair of Dexter Birkenstocks that are several years old. New soles were put on and the uppers were reconditioned and polished. Better than new and in one day for a very reasonable price.

I have taken many many of my shoes to Hollywood shoe repair. Boots that needed new zippers, clogs that needed leather repair, and other clogs that needed new life. I have always been impressed with turn around and price. The service I have used and been most impressed with is the birkenstock refreshment. I have had several pairs refurbish all as good as when originally purchased. Thank you again for you excellent work!

I had my favorite boots resoled here and they came out fantastic, 100% recommend! If you are an entitled Karen who leaves negative feedback over a phone inquiry go somewhere else, call someone else. If you are reasonable and looking for experienced quality work/repair you will not be disappointed!

The gentleman who runs this place is a true old school cobbler. Really knows his stuff. Taken many pair of boots & shoes to him for repair and have always received prompt service and quality workmanship.
