I rented from them back in 2019-2020, I had zero issues at all. They were always willing to help me- when I had a plumbing issue on a Friday night, they had someone there by 10 pm. When my HVAC went out over a weekend in the Summer if you know Columbia, you know, they sent someone within an hour or so. I received my entire security deposit back besides the amount used for carpet cleaning but that is very standard, I was always really impressed with their communication. I do not need to rent from them anymore as I'm married & live in Lexington now, but if I ever do- I would call them again!
Worst company ever. Wish i could give negative stars…. I applied for a house the said it was on the market for 180 days. I talked to Lynn multiple times in which she told me she was going to fast track my application as i needed to move in quickly. When i first called I asked if anyone had applied as i did not want to waste my 85$ for the application. She told me no one applied, so i applied. However, a week went by so i tried calling again. Talked to Lynn again yesterday Monday and she told me AGAIN that she was going to get my information and try to move me in as quick as possible. Fast forward to today, Tuesday … i saw the house went off market. So what do i do??? I called again. NO ONE ANSWERED AFTER I TRIED CALLING FOR AN HOUR. so i drove up to the office to see what the status was on my application since no one answered & it was saying it was off market. I walked in and spoke to Lynn, she told me someone else had came and paid deposit??? So you mean to tell me that someone applied after me and got in before me???? Or was it that you just lied and told me no one applied so you could get my 85$. ???? Either way i suggest y’all run far away from this company. It’s a total scam, they don’t answer phone calls, and you’ll probably end up like me… no house and out on money. Thanks Hubbard Bowers!!!!!!
The move-in process has been seamless! We were able to tour the home, apply and sign a lease in no time. It was a huge relief as most places have wait lists. Lynn is very kind and has been great with communications. We can't wait to move in!
We are an active duty military family that switched to Hubbard Bowers to manage our rental property many years ago after a terrible experience with one of their competitors. From day one we have been very happy with their service! From responsiveness to our needs, to a very user friendly website all the way to the friendliness of their staff we have always enjoyed working with them. They were attentive to our property and quick to engage renters if issues came up. To top it all off, as they have licensed realtors on staff, we utilized them to sell our home. It sold quickly, which was to be expected in the hot 2021 market, but throughout the entire process they kept us well informed and moved much more quickly than I had expected to make needed repairs, cleaning and painting to get the home ready. You will NOT be disappointed with Hubbard Bowers, they are a fantastic agency to work with. Thanks again to all of your team!
The office staff are friendly, but unfortunately, they have not communicated with me very well. I submitted a plumbing service request in January, and received confirmation of the request, but then no one communicated with me about the repair until the service company arrived unannounced on a Saturday in March. While the service company was digging, they cut my internet line and I had to resolve the issue with my provide myself. Additionally, there was a roof leak in my living room. When the repair service fixed the problem, my laundry room on the opposite end of the house was filled with dirt and debris that I was left to clean myself. I’m still not sure how this happened. When I first moved in, the office informed me that I needed to change the water utility service to my name. After walking through this process with the city of Columbia, paying the transfer fee, and making two payments, my rental account was charged with an additional $75 transfer fee. When I inquired, Hubbard Bowers told me that I was never supposed to change the water service to my own name and that they were passing along to me the fee the city charged them to transfer the water back to their name. After I pushed a little more, they admitted their mistake and reimbursed me for both transfer fees and the two months of water service I had paid for. I appreciate their integrity in this situation. Hubbard Bowers has friendly staff members, but they have struggled to communicate effectively with me. Hopefully other tenants have had a better experience.
Update below prepare to lose your deposit if you are military. I am leasing an apartment with Hubbard Bowers at Deer Lake and I have enjoyed it so far. The management team are prompt to fix any issues and their service teams are top notch. They are very reasonable people and they are straight forward. There were no hidden fees, the lease agreement was sound, and I feel like I can trust them. We have been with them for 2 months and I am glad I made this choice. Fast forward 2 yrs. I left the place 100x better than I found it. I replaced the blinds, painted the shutters from their ugly moldy yellow, removed the tree that was damaging the house, power washed the house, painted every room with nice infinity paint, and had it pro cleaned and shampooed before I left. In the end they took almost the entire deposit and wouldn't even reply back. Now I'm in another state due to my pcs and it's not worth the trouble of going back to take them to court. I have pictures of the mess I walked into and after.
I have been renting with Hubbard Bowers since June 2015. It has been an awesome experience. I had one issue with the company when I first moved in that went on a little longer than I would have liked however, I was compensated for the inconvenience and I was treated with respect every time that I spoke with anyone in the office. We had a washer that we purchased and while being installed the company deliver drivers, they caused a major water leak. Not only did the office call us back immediately to give my boyfriend and I directions as to what to do then Mr. Bowers himself even came out to check on us and the other tenants. I mismanaged my funds one month and caused my rent check to bounce and Mr. Bowers contacted me directly to find out whether we were okay I know the money was the most important thing but it was still nice to have someone who doesn't have to actually show some concern for my well-being and worked with us to catch up even with it taking me more time than what was expected to get the late fees paid. I was not harassed or called constantly asking about payment. They were understanding with the situation that I had going on. I absolutely love renting from them and if I was interested in renting forever I would stay with this company. On top of all this I only signed a 1 year lease and when I chose not to resign a lease they did not do any crazy changes on me. Thanks to the staff of Hubbard Bowers for being such awesome and amazing people.
DO NOT hire them to manage your property. I had to change management company in January 2018 because they never followed up on the carpet installation until i asked about the charge over a month later. Then, they had to find another vendor to do the job. Eric never even apologized for his oversight. Good thing I had a good relationship with the Accounting Manager, Joan Huggins who had kindly and promptly helped me resolve the issue. I had to keep following up with Eric to tell him to lower the rent before he would do anything. When my new property manager came on board, they told me that the reason why there were not too many potential renters was because the rental ads listed through Hubbard Bowers were not enticing because there were only a few pictures. Also, there were lots of deferred repairs required in and outside the property. The new property manager took over two dozens of pics showing me what needed to be repaired. There were black moldy marks underneath the wall of one of the toilets, broken blinds, broken light fixtures, dirty cooking range, broken light switches, smoke alarms with no batteries etc., although i had emailed Eric numerous times to remind him to make sure that the smoke alarms have new batteries. My new property management company would not charge me extra money for periodic inspections of my property , while HB would charge $99 for a bi-annual maintenance service which I had cancelled a couple of years before i terminated them. I doubt that they had provided a thorough maintenance service due to all the defer maintenance on my rental property. I had stayed with Hubbard Bowers for several years and had tolerated their poor leasing service because of my good relationship with Joan Huggins. I will not recommend HB as a property manager to anyone. If you want your property to be well taken care of DO STAY AWAY FROM THEM.
