Independence Hall is the building where both the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted. It is now the centerpiece of the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The building was completed in 1753 as the colonial legislature (later Pennsylvania State House) for the Province of Pennsylvania and was used in that capacity until the state capital moved to Lancaster in 1799. It became the principal meeting place of the Second Continental Congress from 1775 to 1783 and was the site of the Constitutional Convention in the summer of 1787. A convention held in Independence Hall in 1915, presided over by former US president William Howard Taft, marked the formal announcement of the formation of the League to Enforce Peace, which led to the League of Nations and eventually the United Nations. The building is part of Independence National Historical Park and is listed as a World Heritage Site.

It’s a really cool place to visit. The building is smaller than you imagine, but you get to go in both rooms and a wing where they have an exhibit on the Declaration of Independence. You need to go through a metal detector to get in, but it’s not that big of a deal. The gift shop is also really nice with cool souvenirs!

Guided tour are great and tons of history. If you have never been be sure to go just plan ahead. All the tours are tickets and scheduled in advance. Be sure to plan to wait if you head there last minute. So much other stuff at the independence mall to keep you occupied during the wait thoigh so it's not too big of a deal. Have fun!

So much American history in one little area. Across the street is the Independence National Historical Park, where you will probably get the best picture of Independence Hall. You don't actually need to purchase a ticket to enter the area surrounding Independence Hall, you just need to pass through a set of security to the east (near the NE corner of Chestnut and Independence Mall). The ticket only comes into play when you want to enter the actual buildings. The place wasn't too crowded on a weekday around noon, but there were definitely a lot of school children going in and out of the buildings. Finding street parking to get out and walk around is probably the most difficult part about visiting this place. There is a parking lot by the visitor center, but it's a little bit pricey.

Birthplace of America. Can be extremely crowded, especially during the summer, but worth checking out. It's deceptively small and simple. You really get a feel for what the Founding Fathers experienced while giving birth to the nation. Right across the street from the Liberty Bell.
