James Fowler is the best Physical Therapist I've seen and I've been to a lot of different PTs in my life, having played collegiate and professional soccer. His attention to detail, his ability to solve complex deep-seated biomechanical problems, and the amount of time he spends with his patients is second to none. He works closely with you to make sure you're able to achieve whatever goals you have. As someone who wants to continue to play competitive soccer for as long as I can, he is always the first person I go see whenever I have an injury or a problem because I know he will work with me to get me back on to the field. If you are looking for a good PT I highly recommend scheduling an appointment with James.
I was fitted for orthotics by James Fowler Physical Therapy, and they coordinated with their specialist Tamir Kfir. The orthotic inserts are supportive, and they're surprisingly easy to insert into sneakers for everyday city walking and gym training. They have helped to lessen the back and knee pain James and his team have been treating me for. I even use the orthotics in rollerskates, and it's easier to focus less on balance and just enjoy skating. They make my skates and shoes more comfortable, as if they were custom fit to me. I have noticed a difference in my stability, balance, and control that is helping me improve my skating and learn new skills. I don't skate without them now!
Best physical therapy office in nyc. Jeremy is so sweet and caring. Such a great experience and such a nice office! They give you the tools to get better but also stay that way in the future.
I've been using message therapy sessions with Claire for Lymphatic Drainage and Noriko for a Massage. I had been going elsewhere for these types of treatments however, it looks like I'll be staying here! Claire helped me understand how lymphatic drainage could help my new health goals and I feel the difference after each session. Noriko's massages help aid my recovery time from dance and running activities and I'm so thankful for this! Being that this location is a Physical Therapy office you walk into a world where the team is constantly working with individuals through movement training and recovery. I like walking in and seeing how others are working towards becoming better versions of themselves. It inspires me!
My therapist is Jeremy. He was wonderful at first several sessions. But recently I feel like he becomes more and more perfunctory. Sometimes he is on his phone while treating me.
TLDR: If you have TMJD, tinnitus, neck and shoulder pain this is your sign to start your healing journey at this practice. I have truly never had a better physical therapy experience in my life than when I was cared for by Jeremy Ballabon at James Fowler Physical Therapy. On the recommendation of my TMJD Specialist Dr. Nojan Bakhtiari I came to Jeremy as a last ditch effort for what seemed like a never ending saga of tinnitus, neck pain, shoulder pain, jaw clicking, and jaw locking no matter what I did. Before seeing him, I had tried message therapy, acupuncture, and had been working with a different physical therapist for 12 weeks to very little improvement. Jeremy was the first doctor I’ve met in my 18 month journey who validated my pain and the distress all the underlying symptoms were causing me. After my assessment with him, he was able to identify the complex set of problems that were causing my TMJD and all the symptoms that surrounded it, and he laid out a clear plan of treatment. I left my first visit with him with a sense of relief and hope. Jeremy’s care is amazing because it is wholistic. He not only adresses the points of pain you have to help you heal, but he is also a teacher. He wants you to understand all the mechanics that effect your injury— he wants you to unlearn bad habits so that you don’t find yourself repeating the same things you did to cause your injury in the first place. He is extremely kind, patient, respectful, and attentive to his patients, and most importantly, he practices what he preaches— never hesitating to jump out on the floor to demonstrate and work with you ensure you understand what needs to happen kinesthetically. I found myself healing at a rapid rate during my treatment at JFPT. I cried when I was able to open and close my mouth without locking, I was overjoyed when my jaw stopped clicking during my daily work I'm a voice actor, and I cried again when I realized how my tinnitus was no longer a consistent bug in my ear. My neck and shoulder pain dissipated, and in about 8-12 weeks I was feeling entirely transformed. I’d be remiss to mention that the practice as a whole is also just plain fabulous. From their wonderful front of office staff, especially Idelsi who is so kind and on top of everything, always making sure you get the number of visits you need, to the billing staff who made being an out of network patient a breeze with my insurance, to the wonderful trainers, especially Caitlin who is so patient and attentive, to the BEAUTIFUL space, and of course their top notch care. Obviously, I could write pages on how much I admire this amazing group of professionals, and how they have undeniably changed my life. If you are willing to invest in yourself, and put in the work, I promise you, you will heal, and you will find results with them. I am happier, I am virtually pain free, my tinnitus has gone from a dull roar to a quiet and occasional whisper, and I’m able to exercise in ways I haven’t been in years. I feel like I have my life back. And I am forever grateful.
I am a long time patient of James Fowler - 20 years! I was born with club feet, and James has dedicated tremendous time and effort to helping me over the years. In fact, under his care, I’ve run 10 marathons and completed 4 triathlons! James gives highly personalized care and has a wonderful bedside manner. He truly cares about his patients and works hard to ensure that therapies and treatment plans are perfectly tailored to specific needs. In addition, everyone he brings into his office to assist with patient care is equally dedicated. I would wholeheartedly recommend James to anyone seeking outstanding physical therapy. He is someone who has really made a huge difference in outcomes for me!
I was struggling with severe TMJ/TMD pain for months to the point where I could barely eat. My options from a TMJ specialist were extremely expensive and scary — the cheapest being a $1700 device with monthly $200 visits, the scariest and most expensive being jaw reconstruction surgery. However, he also recommended physical therapy for my posture and TMJ. He recommended Jeremy at James Fowler, and Jeremy changed my life. He was very kind, accommodating, and realistic about expectations. It was always the highlight of my day to go to physical therapy and see him. I recommended him to a coworker and she had the same experience. After several months, I am MUCH improved. I am not 100% pain free, but at least 80%, and I have many exercises and skills I learned from Jeremy for when the pain flares up. I would whole heartedly recommend Jeremy to anyone needing a physical therapist, but especially for jaw and neck pain. I wish I could still go see him every week because he has such a positive presence : it was also very easy to schedule for the entire month at times that were convenient for my work schedule. The facility is really nice and all the staff are very friendly and helpful.
I was lucky enough to find this physical therapy practice in 2007 and have been each time I had an injury: about four times to date. James is extraordinarily intuitive about the body and what it is showing him regarding the injury. He also helpful in regard to your attitude to the injury and the exercises required of you between appointments. If I have to get injured, I feel a whole better having James in my corner. I am also grateful nowadays for Jeremy. James' staff generally are knowledgeable, gracious and gentle. The whole experience is pleasant and of the highest quality. There are things in life you luck into: finding the osteopath who put me in touch with James and his practice is one of those. There's good reason for me to travel to East 18th St. from West 93rd.
Here's my starting point: James Fowler is a GREAT physical therapist. Not good, not very good. GREAT. I have a case of severe lower back stenosis, and for the past four years he's kept me from having to face what everyone dreads: back surgery. Not only that, my symptoms have eased noticeably. This April 4/29/21 I needed a knee replacement, and faced the usual lengthy rehab. Well, I finished it last week, and James again proved to me what a wonder he is. He knows everything there is to know about the human body, but what sets him apart he's not my first PT is his ability to come up with a Plan B and a Plan C and a Plan D as needed. You see, the cookie cutter approach is not the way to go in PT. Each rehab is unique; there's no one way to rehab a knee replacement, or keep a chronic back condition under control. Things change. Always. And the great there's that word again PT knows when to adjust. When the swelling in my knee wasn't lessening as James wanted, which can happen darn that randomness of life!, off I went to the other side of his office for lymphatic system massages. Boy, did they do the trick. Claire, his massage therapist, is a gem, and after the sessions with her I was on my way. And it's not just James. His Trainer assistants are all winners, making sure we are doing our exercises the right way and explaining the do's and don'ts in ways that any patient can understand. His space is a safe haven, a place of expertise and encouragement. Heck, we go there because our bodies aren't working, and that is always unsettling, to say the least. But James steers us clear of what he calls the Disaster Narrative that's lurking in all our heads. He's the oasis of calm in the swirling world of worries and pain that besiege us. Simply, he's a good guy. And a GREAT physical therapist!
