Went on a Sunday for dinner. Most of the dishes were good, if not very good lamb and chicken. The duck was extremely overcooked, but its saffron sauce was nice and I’m sure the dish is good when cooked properly. The main issue we had was timing/service. Our appetizers came out after 40 minutes, and our mains took another 40 minutes after that to arrive. The place was not packed, and there were only 3 of us ordering a normal amount of food. Not only was this frustrating, but the staff didn’t handle it well. At one point a gentleman came over, without introducing himself, and seemed to try and make excuses about why we were having these issues, such as “well your entrees were fired at that time, so they came out at this time”. There wasn’t even an apology, he just kind of walked away after we expressed our disappointment. Eventually they did bring us complementary sparkling wine, but this also missed the mark as one in our group doesn’t drink and another still had a full glass of wine. Would have been nice if they instead simply asked how they could make it up, such as complementary dessert. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s worth it for us to ever go back.
Amazing food! Amazing ambiance / great time with friends. I am only removing 1 star because the service was extremely slow, foods took over 30 minutes to arrive at the table and that was the only downside. When the food was On our table - we enjoyed every single dish & cocktail. Would definitely go back here again despite slow service which I’m sure is a temporary glitch Would recommend this restaurant while in DC!
Juan was an excellent bartender and the gentleman working the front door, who I assume was the manager, was also very helpful in making sure I enjoyed my meal. I live in New Mexico, where good Indian food is difficult to find, so I thought I would enjoy something during my vacation that I couldn't at home. Conveniently located near my hotel, this was a great choice. The food was delicious and bursting with flavor, and the wine list and service were impressive. I spoke to a local at the bar who claimed this was the best Indian food in DC, and I agree with her.
The food was really good with a lot of vegetarian options! The dishes were very flavorful and a favorite would be the pistachio kulfi. Yet, I would not recommend the turnip dish as it was lacking in flavor. I would recommend the drinks though as they were unique and yum!
We had an amazing experience on Valentine’s Day our server was amazing and we loved the atmosphere and food. They made our special night even more special. Thank you guys! It was a preset menu which is our favorite style. Chef had our taste buds singing.
The starter of lentil soup was warm and comfortable. I personally enjoyed it. The starter of the Grilled vegetable platter was our favorite. Others are good but not beyond my expectations. Scallop was okay you can skip it.Recommended dishesGarlic Naan, Butter Chicken
The food, the service to the decor and vibe screamed "Michelin Star". This was our second time there. Today, we ordered the Pre-Fix lunch special in which we were served a three course meal-- appetizer, main course, and dessert. The Chicken Tikka was incredibly juicy and succulent, and the spicy green dipping sauce gave it the spicy kick it needed to push it over the top from simply great to FANTASTIC. This was only our first course... We then ordered the Butter Chicken and the Palak Paneer for our main course. We supplemented our main meal with a side of Chickpeas, a warm Whole Wheat Roti and a buttery crisp Laatha Paratha. Every item served in our second course was perfect, and the combined portions served was food that the two of us could finish in one sitting. To close out our visit, we ordered caramond ice cream and a Carrot Hafka for dessert, our final course, which was small but satisfying. Overall, I give Karma a perfect score. If I could give it a sixth star I would. I recommend this restaurant for any and all occasions. The food and service is consistently tasty.
Went for dinner, reservation recommended . It lived up to it's expectations. We ordered several different things, everything amazing, excellent service. Loved chicken chettinad and amritsari snapper the most. Vegetarian options: Paneer pasanda was excellent.
Had an amazing engagement dinner at Karma. We booked a private room since we were a group of 20+ people. Our menu was pre-selected and I really think everything we had was delicious. Some of the best Indian fusion food I've had! For appetizers we got tandoori cauliflower, paneer pesto, lamb kabobs, chicken tikka, and amritsari snappers. All amazing, but the chicken tikka really stood out. For entrees we had the lobster masala, chicken chettinad, lamb rogan Josh, zucchini kofta, and heirloom paneer. Lobster masala was the highlight of my meal. So delicious and flavorful, and the presentation was gorgeous! For sides we got pindi chickpeas, grilled okra, garlic and plain naan, and latcha paratha. For dessert we had pistachio kulfi, coconut medallions, and carrot halwa. Amazing food aside, our service was great and everyone was so helpful. With a large party we had someone attending to us at all times and made sure everything was coming on time. For private events, Karma Modern Indian is a great place to go to, and I will continue to recommend them in the future!
Came here for dinner on a Saturday night with 5 other people. We made a reservation recommended but we were told that we had a time limit 2 hours. Food breakdown: - potato appetizer 5/5 this was so yummy but be warned: it's a very small portion. - paneer pesto 4/5, very nice, loved the sauce that the paneer came on. - paratha 5/5 so flaky and delicious - garlic and cheese naan 3.5/5 tasty but honestly a bit greasy for me - dhaal 4/5 beautiful flavors - sea bass 4/5 very well cooked, could've used better garnishes though - zucchini kofta 4.5/5 great flavors and unique - pistachio kulfi 3.5/5 as expected - peach tartlet 3.5/5 nice but not too memorable The service was very attentive and they were very quick to bring out plates and refill our drinks. I would come back here to try their lunch specials and to eat more of that delicious paratha.
