Great place to adopt. Got my cat bug from there a year ago and she fits right into the family. We visited care-a-van for her yearly shots and it was free! Daniel and nick running the van today were so helpful and polite, great employees. Adopt, don’t shop! Consider donating for all they do!!
We recently picked up a kitten from Purrfect Day Cat Cafe. The first day, he was great. Eating, drinking, being a kitten. But the following days, he stopped eating and drinking and was very lethargic. Since Purrfect Day is a partner with KHS, we took him in to get checked out. When you adopt a cat from Purrfect Day, they have a 10 day window that if the kitten starts acting sick, you can take him in to KHS, and they treat them with no charge. I emailed KHS, and they got back to me within 24 hours and got me in the same day I received the email. There was a little confusion in the email correspondence, and I ended up going to the east campus when I needed to go to Steedly Dr campus. Kind of sucked cause I live in Shively, so the east campus is about a 30-minute drive, and our appointment was between 4 and 5, so traffic was kinda ugly. It was not too big of a deal, but I was afraid we wouldn't make it back to Steedly in time to get kitty in. Luckily, they close at 6 pm, so I had time to spare. When we arrived, a nice lady from one of the other buildings on the property let us in the hospital section cause she said it was too hot to wait outside, so that was good, because it was pretty hot. The front desk told the vet tech we were there, and they took kitty back to get checked out. After around 10 minutes, she came out and let us know they wanted to keep him. He was a little dehydrated, and since he wasn't eating, she said they would give him an appetite stimulant and hand feed him. She said we could take him home if we wanted to try to do it ourselves, but we figured they could do it because we didn't want to risk not being able to get him to eat and him get any sicker. Then we signed papers and left our kitten in their hands. All in all, it was a decent experience. The people at the Humane Society were friendly and nice. Hopefully, we get our kitty back soon safe and sound. If you want to adopt a pet, I highly suggest going here or to a partner. You pay a bit to get the kitten, but they come spayed/neutered, microchipped. If anything happens within 10 days, they take care of the health of the animal. I don't know if they offer this at the KHS, but when you get the kitty from Purrfect Day, you also get 30 days of pet insurance in case anything happens after the initial 10 days. So go get you a new best friend. Edit* Jaspurr has returned home after 2 weeks of being in the animal hospital. KHS did everything they could to take care of him, and he returned to us a new kitten. I don't know what all they did, but I know he required a blood transfusion, amongst other things. KHS took care of everything. I'm so glad they give you 10 days to make sure the kitties are going to be okay. I'm not sure how much the cost would have been, but I expect out of pocket it would have cost a small fortune.
Took my cat there to be spayed. Staff was very friendly but the location of the mobile clinic was too small. Cars actually lined up to the street. They need a bigger space so all cars can enter and not have to start their cars repeatedly to move forward as the check-in process continues. My cat tolerated the procedure without incident. The cost was reasonable.
Kentucky humane society gave my kids their best friend. I adopted snape from the main campus.
I have mad respect for this organization. It takes a very special type of person to show up and show out as the employees that do this type of work do on a daily basis. The staff were kind and helpful, the animals living areas were as clean as the circumstances allow. The one thing I noticed though, was the high adoption fees, coming in at almost $400.00. I realize that the cost of taking care of these babies may be the reason for the price of adoption, I just think that that might interfere with some people's ability to afford adopting any of these beautiful babies. My heart goes out to the employees of this organization for their devotion to animals in need ..
I adopted Birdie last Saturday. She’s a four month old puppy. I was told when I adopted her that someone had adopted her before me and brought her back. They had another dog, and they said that she was too aggressive! She’s a puppy how aggressive could she be? Anyway she’s doing great, she clings to me of course which is wonderful! I love her so much! And she’s growing like a weed! The Humane Society is a wonderful place to get a dog! All of those dogs need good homes and why go pay all that money when you can get a dog like mine ! They have every breed known to man in there. And the place is so clean and the dogs are clean and fed the best food. It’s an amazing place so if you’re wanting a pet, you should go there.
I went there today 8/3/24 to inquire about volunteering. I was told to go online to fill out a request. What? I could have done that from home. My point being I was there ready to participate & had actually gone out of my way. I felt like I was bothering the person at the desk & she seemed like she had better things to do. I had in mind at the time to start now & make arrangements to come back on a weekly basis to help out. The experience left such a bad taste in my mouth I don't know if I'd want to return. I too have better things to do. But my love for animals will never change.
Amazing group of people, I cannot recommend KHS enough! I’ve been able to foster a few dogs for them over the years and the process has always been so easy and I’m always so impressed by the organization and how they check up on you and make sure everything is going well. Without KHS I wouldn’t have my sweet kitty Ellie or my incredible soulmate in dog form, Gracie! I am so thankful for them, they are truly a compassionate and caring group of people and I would recommend them to everyone looking to adopt their new best friend! I also highly recommend fostering for them!
I adopted my two cats from here. Both boys are in great health and were very well taken care of. The staff were also extremely helpful and always friendly! I had a wonderful experience adopting from KHS and would absolutely recommend it :
I had just moved here from Utah and we were really looking to expand our family. We knew we had wanted a cat but other than that we were open to anything. They had many kittens and a few adult cats. Most of the kittens were black in color and all were shorthair. We immediately fell in love with an energetic black kitten that was so lively and playful. One of the employees Megan casually had mentioned that two kittens do better together than one alone. She was so right we picked out the cutest shy orange kitten with so much love. We were grateful for how much attention and care they gave us in spite of them having low staffing and lots of people in that day. Our kittens are very healthy and were given some hills science diet kitten food to help them transition to the food of our choice. The price was $160 per kitten which I would say is incredibly fair. They provide microchipping, 30 day pet insurance, pet was already fixed spayed/neutered, and was update with all shots and dates for the next ones that would be due. They also included a free visit to a vet provided that we pay for any treatment ourselves it can be expensive to even get in the door at a vet office. The facility was very clean and extra measures were taken to help prevent any kind of disease spread. We are so happy to now have our Alecto 4 month, female and Horus 3 month, male.
