Kevin had been repairing my boat since 1993. He is one of the sharpest and most honest mechanics I know. If you are charged for something then it was necessary and it was done correctly. His initial checkout of the motor is very thorough and it will keep you from fixing something such as a propeller shaft just to find out later you have a compression issue with the engine. He will also tell you what needs to be fixed and what can wait. In my opinion he is one of the best.

Here’s how I look it. Kevin and Danielle Chema of Kevin’s Boat and Motor Repair, are at the “Top of the Power Curve” in the maintenance and repair of trailer-able, power boats. They are the “Wikipedia” in this field of pleasure boating for the Houston area. Should you choose them, and I highly recommend you do, you will not be disappointed. They are great folks for starters! You will always know, up front, what you are looking at for a bottom line repair bill. You can rest assured that if an item, part or system needs to be repaired or replaced, then you should do as recommended. Because if you don’t, you will probably wish you did as you drift idly along with no engine power or some system malfunction. I have said this before and I will say it again, “The best day of my boating life” was when I pulled into their original location on Telephone Road. That was in the Spring of 2013. Now, some 5 years and two rigs later, I am still a very satisfied customer! (Note: In the late Summer of 2013, myself and a fellow boater, ran from Sheldon, TX to Hernando Beach, FL, in a Mako20 with a Yamaha Vmax200, via the IWW in six days. Then in the late Summer of 2016, the same boating colleague and I, ran from Hernando Beach, FL, in a Sprotsman211 with a Yamaha 200FX, to Miami, FL, in 5 days.) Did we have some luck in trans versing some 1000 + statute miles of IWW and open Gulf of Mexico at times? Yes, we did! But the root reason is because Kevin Chema meticulously, maintained the Mako20 and now meticulously maintains the Sportsman211. If you want to be on the water and stay on the water, then go see Kevin and Danielle for regular tune up and maintenance.

I have been using Kevin's boat shop since he opened on Telephone Rd.
He does good work. Tell him what you want, he will give you an estimate. If don't need extras, let him know. I have taken boats that I was going to purchase so he can check them out. He does an excellent job and gives you the readings, it helps you make a decision to purchase. Worth the money. Sure he's busy, that's because he's dependable.

The crew and front office manager were welcoming. Kevin, however, is not too polite - especially when being questioned about the labor and cost. For example: I had asked him about a certain proposal and his response was, and I quote, "I will not go over the entire proposal with you". The last time I checked I was the paying customer and I DO have the right to question any work. I have already started to inform my family and friends to stay away from this shop. I found a better place where the cost of labor is lower, the initial fee is way lower and the owner was willing to talk me step-by-step of the cost.

Top notch service.
I had warranty work done thinking I would not get the motor back for several weeks. I took the motor in on Friday and got a call on Wednesday that it was ready to be picked up. Can't beat that for service!👍
