This place is like a time machine. Step inside and you'll be transported to 1988 KMart with original flooring, lights, and ceiling tiles. Sans the massive slurpee machine replaced by a smaller one you'll relive every nostalgic Kmart memory you've had. The cashiers are friendly yet not quick. Large selection and seemingly endless sales. I don't know how kmart remains alive, but this one is doing it.
Yes, this store is closing, and I must say, I hated this store since I've been in the area since 2001. The lines were always long and it seemed every cashier had an attitude. But I must say, I had to give it 5 stars since I was able to take advantage of the many items they had for sale early. I would go every other day to get items for myself and family since I knew the store would be closing. I became obsessed going to this store and friends would laugh at me knowing I was at the Kmart looking for another deal. I thank you Kmart for assisting me with all the items I purchased at a discount. They are really good products. I hope they turn the lot into a nice town home community for people who can afford it. I don't go to the Pizza Hut or Wendy's, but I hope they consider selling that lot to a developer who will construct some nice spacious town homes with garages. That area is relatively quiet and would be perfect for Town Homes. I wish all the helpful workers I met in the last few months well in the future endeavors. RiP Kmart! Kush!
Friendly staff and well-stocked store. Unfortunately many of the overhead lights are burned out and have not been replaced, making it somewhat dark and dingy inside. There are definitely long lines at the registers, as noted by other reviewers. One of the last few K-marts left in our area. Hope they can hang on!
I visited this store today to buy a toddler bed after leaving walmart because of bad customer service. I paid $10 more for my items but it was worth it because the sales associates were polite. The store was very clean but it was empty compared to the Walmart and Target. I will definitely return to this store because I love their children's department. I received a $50 shop your way reward as well and I can spend that the next time I visit the store.
They need more cashier's.!!! Only one cashier and there was like 20 people trying to pay..!!!
Great deals, however the customer service needs to improve greatly. It's called work for a reason. Staff needs to remember that working anywhere is more precious than gold these days. Do your best at your job your reward may not come on earth, but in heaven thou shalt be rewarded. PEACE !!
I love shopping at this Kmart. This is one of the few that is lef in this area. I like that I can rack up points towards my purchases which saves me money. I hope this Kmart stays open Keeping my fingers crossed.
This store is the WORST!. If I could give no stars I would. There are never enough staff on the floor or at the register. The workers they do have are tired, overworked, and rude, and not knowledgeable to even help customers. During the Christmas Holiday of all times they had 2 cashiers working on a Saturday afternoon! I searched the floor to find other staff to help. Finally I had to taise my voice with the manager to open more registers, as he refused to get on the register himself to help. Don't place online orders here, I paid for my order they said it was ready. When I got to the store they didn't even have the items In This Store! This caused me to lose my points, and all they could offer was an apology. AND the bathrooms are Deplorable! Myself and an older Lady complained to the manager who did nothing but dance around with excuses. Im Done!
I started shopping at this Kmart about two years ago. Its price beats all other stores. You just have to learn to use their Shopyourway Rewards Program, then order online and pick up locally. Thanks Kmart/Sears for saving me this much money.
This store has about 3 weeks left to live, 1 of two Kmarts left in the DC area. I live right near the Silver Spring location, but prefer this one honestly if only because of it's unique design. Formally a Memco in 1970 and then a Bradlees in 1983, this Kmart first opened in 1989 and I'm sure it's been a heck of a ride for the people who live in the immediate area. I only discovered and started visiting this location in early 2019, but I've got to say, it's been a very pleasant experience each time I've visited. This store has had the longest run out of the 3 businesses that have once occupied this building, but sadly, after 31 years, it's time to close another chapter in the retail history books. R. I. P. Chillum Kmart 1989 - 2020. Thanks for maintaining such a quality store for so long.
