This is an on the go review for a cute and yummy on the go spot. A few blocks away from Grove path station, this little cafe offers cute onigiri with both old school and fusion vibes. If you need something to hold you over without weighing you down, Koro is the solution. May I suggest the spicy salmon. Enjoy!
I used to LOVE Koro Koro, been eating these rice ball since they had a truck. However, the new owners have ruined this place for me forever. First taking liberties with the quality of ingredients and now not knowing how to properly fold the rice ball because as soon as I took it out all the filling fell out with the plastic wrapping still unto us. It geniunley pains me to write and leave this review but I'll never eat there again : *Adding that the new owners are rude. I called them about my rice ball filling falling out in the bag and they hung up on me.
I love the food. Perfect walking food that's not pizza. I guess they're going for a fusion thing which can be weird, but it's cool to get like a Moroccan flavor sometimes. Umeboshi pickled plum is traditional and very reliable. They always have some sort of special as well. Perfect especially when want a mid-day snack or something less than a pile of food.
Recently changed owners. The people behind the counter were not wearing masks or hairnets despite preparing food, which seems like a given these days. The rice was way too warm- I guess I have maybe unrealistically high standards for this kind of thing because I lived in Korea for a couple of months, and I ate better rice balls sold at 7-11 there. Like, much better. The rice shouldn't be molded when it's so warm. I love that it's all gluten-free, but they ran out of soy sauce so I was left eating this giant ball of warm rice with cold filling. Just sort of a weird thing. It's cheap food, though, I guess. Lol.
Great snack during our visit in Jersey City. The place was clean, Matt was very helpful and the food was tasty. Would definitely recommend !
I used to come here a lot under the previous owners. The rice balls I got today were still tasty, but the outside is very dry. The filling flavor is good but the dry exterior wrapping does not taste very good in my opinion. I also miss the experience of being able to sit inside to eat or wait for food. The new format of the shop is rather unpleasant, putting the food preparation right in the middle of the shop floor so that there is only a small bench by the cash register to sit. It has lost a lot of the charm of the old place. Edit: They are asking again whether you want something ready to eat or to go. I ordered today for another person and they were trying to call me by that person's name, beyond just fulfilling the order.. it's just uncomfortable. You can't fake hospitality, and the difference between the atmosphere in Koro's previous form versus in the current shop is super noticeable. Not a very pleasant environment at the moment, unfortunately.
I’m not an expert on rice ball, but I found it very good, and of great quality. It is very hearty, and really cheap for such a quality of ingredients. I will come back
We were so excited to try this place, as we’d been missing home Asia. The flavor profiles seemed really interesting too! Grabbed 5 today and are so disappointed. Since rice is the main feature, the rice should be stellar. But each one had dry, tough rice — not cooked with enough water, or they gave us the bottom of the rice cooker. The filling didn’t live up to their promise either — too little, too dry, not as interesting as the descriptions. Wish they had experimented with flavored rice to complement the filling. Doesn’t take much to make a great rice ball. Wish these were made with more love.
Koro Koro is so yummy! As a gluten free human I love that I can get anything in there and know I'll be good to go. The only thing better than their delicious rice balls is the kind and friendly staff. Highly recommend this little gem in the heart of Jersey City.
This shop is super cozy and very inviting! The staff is always smiling and they are so quick in making orders! I have eaten here at least 6 times so far and I will keep going back as a customer. I love the food here and I am glad I found this gem in the historic downtown area : I tried almost everything on the menu...I will be sure to try everything before the year ends! :
