MedHelp - URGENT CARE, Family Practice and Internal Medicine - Birmingham, Alabama

Story

MedHelp’s Mission:

MedHelp was founded in 1982 as the first URGENT CARE/Family Practice in Birmingham. Open 7 days a week with convenient hours and no appointments needed... we are dedicated to providing the best possible healthcare with the least amount of hassle and wasted time.

Our doctors and nurse practitioners are also available by appointment so you can choose a MedHelp provider as your primary care physician. We always have a healthcare provider on call to answer our patients' questions.

All MedHelp physicians are board certified and practice the full range of Family Practice and Internal Medicine. We have a provider managed weight loss program (Eric Westerlund, CRNP), nutrition and bio-identical hormone replacement (Dr. Vaughn) and primary care dermatology (Dr. Willoughby).

MedHelp has a state-of-the-art medical records system, which enables us to provide the latest technology for our patients. We have digital X-ray equipment that provides clear images for our doctors to interpret. Our in-house lab has a full-time lab director and is fully CLIA certified.

It is our goal to follow the Golden Rule - treating our patients as we would like to be treated. The physicians at MedHelp are dedicated to helping people whether they are sick of body or of spirit. It is always our intention to honor Christ as we serve our patients.

MedHelp is honored to be on the teaching staff for both the UAB and the University of South Alabama Schools of Medicine. We consider it a privilege to train the next generation of physicians.

We accept most insurance coverage and are happy to file your claim for you. If you are a new patient and do not have insurance, we require a $150 deposit. For our return patients, we require a $100 deposit at the time of service.

Welcome to the MedHelp Family! We look forward to seeing you soon.

The Samford Medhelp has such a caring staff. Very attentive to my concerns. From Alicia at the front desk to John the medical assistant who took my vital signs and did my x-rays, Courtney the nurse practitioner with Dr. MacGregor. The best attentive care I’ve received in a long time.
On hold with reception until the end of time. Sometimes they’re great, but you can tell there’s an outlier who is horrible at their job. I called back x4, and waited a total wait time of 29 minutes intention to cancel an appointment. Every time I call back you can hear her briefly answer, and then immediately put you on hold. Not my first time this has happened at this facility. Why is this person still working here??
From the front office Aleshia to the nurse Vamelia to the consultation with Dr. MacGregor, I have had nothing but a pleasant experience! I was seen on time and the doctor went through all my issues with care and great bedside manners. Certainly recommend it!
Nurse Pam is an exceptional great Nurse when it comes to drawing blood. I was nervous at first but when that needle broke my skin, I didn’t even feel it. Great job Nurse Pam!
I went to the lakeshore location. I felt like they were racist. The receptionist was extremely friendly to the Caucasian guests but not me. My appointment was at 2:15 . I didn’t get seen until an hour and 30 minutes later. Dr Tamucci talks extremely fast and don’t care to let her patients get a word in . I got a few words in . I didn’t realize until after I got back to work that the two white ladies who came after me were already gone ! I’m assuming they saw them first and left me waiting in a room for over and hour and a half . I was the last person to leave . They definitely need to work on th the social skills and time management. I have great insurance, just the wrong color .
Front staff courteous and timely. only waited a very short time. Ms Aleshia J made sure I was checked in, paid balance and today's copay. Sent to triage and then to see Dr. COPD exacerbated by weather. Steroid, Antibio. Home in an hour and 10 min.
I'm was so pleased with the services I received during my visit. Latedra and Cynthia are always polite and eager to assist me.
My experience was great from the time I walked through the door. Alicia was very cordial and helpful. The facility was clean and quiet...an atmosphere needed when you are not feeling your best.
I was turned around and told to go to the emergency room! Signed in at 7:23 pm and they close at 8pm. I was experiencing uncomfortable flutters in my heart/ chest and increased heart rate but I was told to I couldn't be seen! So don't waste your time if you want to be seen close to their closing time.
This was almost a nightmare if not for the receptionist. We arrived at 5:35pm and they close at 6pm emergency didn't happen until 5:20 and the doctor decided he was not going to see anyone else. After a bit of back and forth, the receptionist went to the back and came out she told us they would be able to see us. Wasn't the most pleasant experience but at least they were able to see us.
