Cannot say enough good things about the staff and service. They are always kind, competent and fast. I have been a patient for over 3 years here and will drive past other similar places to see these wonderful people.
If I could give 0 stars, I would. My husband was seen here in June of this year. We received a bill for the full amount of the visit. When we inquired as to why this is, we were told Medicare denied his claim. My husband is 49. They denied his claim because he doesn't have Medicare- he's too young. We brought this to their attention only to be told it was our responsibility to contact our insurance company to correct it. I work in a doctor's office myself, and that is absolutely incorrect. We went with it though and filled out some paperwork to send to Blue Cross. We did this and never heard from anyone again. We assumed it had been corrected and we would receive a bill for the correct amount. After a little while we received a bill from a COLLECTIONS company. Collections. Keep in mind we have been in contact with both American Family Care and Blue Cross to try and get this resolved. These folks have been ZERO help in trying to resolve this and are even sending us to collections for not paying an amount we never owed in the first place. I. AM. FURIOUS. They'll be hearing from our lawyers if this isn't resolved by the end of this year. Save yourself some time and headaches. Go somewhere else. These people apparently have had a hard time filing patient's visits properly on more than one occasion.
I was told by the staff at the front desk that I had get an TB test before I can get a physical. I visited another AFC location and received my physical without getting a TB test. When I called this clinic, and ask why a TB test was required there and not required at their other clinic, the young lady couldn’t explain. My job does not require a TB test with my physical. The young ladies at the front desk need more training and education on physicals. I have had physicals before and was never told a TB test was required. Please educated your staff.
Normally, my visits are easygoing and I never have issues. Recently, as of my most recent visit - I had nothing but issues. Upon arrival, I was given nothing but attitude and so was my S/O. It took over an hour compared to 15-20min in recent visits, even during sick season to get called up, in which someone who arrived roughly 20min after me and my S/O was taken back before us. Both me and my S/O are sick and went to get tests done. Negative for everything. Assumed upper respiratory infection - which is fine, adds up completely actually. We were both given the same shots; steroid and antibiotic. They warned the nurse that I can faint pretty easily given I am borderline diabetic and hadn’t been eating the best lately - this was ignored and I was told to stay standing. Thankfully, I didn’t pass out - but I was not given warning despite me asking for one. Roughly 14 hours later.. I have two large and painful bruises where the shots were done. I almost never bruise from anything needle related unless it’s an IV, in which this was of course not. After inspecting the area, I realized that the area in which both shots were done was much lower than any shot I’ve gotten in relation to steroid and antibiotic. The actual MD was amazing, he listened and answered any of my concerns with patience and honesty. It’s the staff such as the front desk as well as the nurse that caused the most issues, if not all of them. It also took roughly 15minutes to get a work and school excuse, in which they didn’t get the MD signature which rendered it invalid to where I’ll have to make an extra trip to fix this issue. I will also be bringing up these issues in person to the staff since I have no choice to make a second trip anyway.
I had a good experience at AFC! As a travel nurse and always looking for the best service, I was not disappointed at all! They were all very professional and kind. I will definitely return to them for care in the future if I need to be cared for while I am in Birmingham Alabama!
Waited for three hours for the results of a simple flu test with my son who was also sick. Was told I was next to be seen by the doctor, and then proceeded to wait for an additional 40 minutes until someone came in looking for a different patient. I came here because it was a Sunday and the other urgent care facilities didn’t open until 1:00. I would have been better to wait.
Efficient process of checking in and being seen. Professional behavior of all staff, from reception to lab to provider. Showed genuine curiosity about presenting symptoms and compassion about my physical experience. Will definitely use them again for weekend/acute needs.
After entering the office, filing out the check in form, and explaining the reason for my visit, I was rudely told by the women behind the counter, “we don’t do that.” I was upset and desperate to see a doctor, but the women at the front desk rudely dismissed me. I left, only to be called back to the office five minutes later. The women at the front desk explained that they misunderstood the reason for my visit and that the doctor could see me after all. The nurse who took my vitals and information was kind and professional, as was the nurse practitioner who I eventually saw. However, the women behind the counter were so rude when I initially entered the office, I was brought to tears. I would not recommend this urgent care for any reason.
Incredible staff and they get you in and out so quickly. I also asked for recommendations for a new ENT and the doctor was happy to give me some recommendations for people in the area. Cannot say enough good things about this AFC.
Little time with doctor. He was not clear and provided basically no info of what to do after leaving other than rest and drink plenty of fluids. Waiting area was not clean. There were liquids on floor and on a couple of seats. Nurse ? came in to do COVID test and swab for strep but had to leave for gloves. Nurse did not swab skin with alcohol prep pad before giving me two shots. This was a first for me!! I have always been swabbed before a needle injection into skin. I felt that it lacked standard safety/sanitary precautions. Will go somewhere else next time.
