Story

All of creation has one ultimate purpose to reveal and revel in the glory of God. The early reformers in the catechism asked, “What is the chief end of man. The answer: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. It is this passionate pursuit of God’s glory that focuses our ministries and engages the hearts of the people at Metropolitan. The passion for this ministry stems from a belief that the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:18-20, when carried out through the keeping of the Great Commandment (Luke 10:27-28), summarizes God’s purpose for the church.

We also acknowledge the impossibility of reaching this purpose apart from the powerful and gracious act of God through the Holy Spirit who works the new life of Christ into our hearts. Therefore, we proclaim unashamedly the effectual saving grace of Jesus Christ as the only possible hope for the human race. We also teach that the salvation of any believer in Jesus Christ becomes manifest through the outworking of holiness as the Holy Spirit carries out His great work.

Once the Holy Spirit begins to work in the new believer, then the hunger for knowledge and the profound fellowship that comes from communion with God and with His people is awakened in the heart, resulting in a transformed life where the heart desires and outward actions become conformed to the will of God. Such a change so invigorates the believer that he or she will enthusiastically spread the Good News both here in Brooklyn and throughout the world.
