This is, by far, the dirtiest MTA subway station I have come to, and sadly one that I will be using for quite a while. It is worse when it rains. There is dripping water every few steps. There are quite a few resident rats on the tracks, so it is really gross when water rises and settles - rats’ bath time. And when you go up, lots of homeless people loitering on both entrances. But I appreciate the lines that pass by here, A, B, C, D, E, F, and the M. You certainly have options when one line is down or delayed. Or, at least, with me, they are very helpful. I am reviewing this station in the hopes that MTA cleans it up, at least. Fare hikes make me resentful of the MTA when I feel unsafe at the station, or worse late to my destination because of the many delays
Why is the D train going to Queens it come twice and the time we was waiting for the Brooklyn it become just onces
not RATS in an NYC SUBWAY???!!!! /s Tons of transfers and good stuff street-side. Precisely as gross as any other subway station, and a little less gross than some which makes it average. The water is definitely a problem. Then you get extra wet and, fine, the rats get extra disgusting.
If you like rats in the subway, then 5 stars for West 4th! Also, it’s not raining outside and hasn’t been since this morning, but we’re still enjoying a light shower down on the lower platform—I don’t know whether it’s trickle down rain or some sort of leak, and I’m not sure which to be more worried about; probably the leak. Two stars rather than one because lots of trains stop here and there’s good stuff up at street level. The station itself is disgusting. But it feels less disgusting in some respects than its sibling one stop south, Broadway Lafayette, which is darker and feels even danker, although you can get the 6 there, both directions now, and that’s pretty useful; definitely fewer rats there. So West 4th is gross, but it’s certainly not alone in that respect.
It’s huge and it got a bit overwhelming the 1st time I stepped in. But the locations, the numerous exits and the variety of trains lines all provide convenience.
Unfortunately, this station has rats running around like many other NYC subway stations.
Still waiting
It served me well <3
