I visited  once in the late winter, and not much was going on... but if you visit in the spring or summer, when the crops are in bloom and the reenactors are in full swing, the national colonial farm is a beautiful place!  Just across the potomac, Mount Vernon can be seen.  The historical buildings, including an original 18th century farm house, are accessible to passersby.  The heritage breed livestock, breeds which were kept by colonial farmers, add a living touch, making the national colonial farm a wonderful experience for goers of all ages!

I really really love this hidden gem of a park.  Very secluded, very quiet.  Wonderful views of the water.

This national park is beautiful, educational, and FREE.  The colonial reenactors are friendly and informative, and the grounds really are lovely in all seasons.  The park focuses on breeding heritage farm animals, so the location is focused on conservation as well as education. A must-visit!
