RV getaway was private and appeared well maintained. The staff seemed overwhelmed, in the pre-check in call they asked me to finish check in 5 days after arrival when they would have time. The camp host was awesome and checked me in. He also provided some local tips and answered all my questions. There was no WiFi in the camp, you had to leave the campground to find a hotspot. There is no I mean zero T-mobile service throughout the campground.
Our stay was good. I will say the washing machine was broken and when we complained the crazy lady said we deal with it or go home. Then she reduced our rate for the inconvenience. We also dealt with giant palmetto bugs. They were disgusting. The representative at Navy Getaways was incredibly rude and not helpful. And we were unable to speak to a manager when we there.
Please don’t let this campground die do to budget cuts or MWR fund shortages. This place is quiet and great for camping when getting outside the city isn’t always an option. Water/ power… sewer dump is up at entrance to camp ground. They have a descent bathhouse and free laundry! My only complaint is their is a playground and pavilion that could be used. With a little TLC and I mean little. A good mowing, maybe some paint this place could really be a beautiful asset to the base. There is about 15 of those heavy plastic weather resistant picnic tables about to be consumed by weeds… THOSE CANT BE CHEAP.. it also has a brick fireplace and oven!! 30-40 mins with some mortar repair and that thing would be one BBQ I got beast!!! But because it’s out of site out of mind, I’m afraid it’s going to degrade and fall apart.
It's our favorite getaway! Beautiful golf course with a really sweet elevated tee on the driving range. The beach is fantastic!!
Excellent military only hideaway in busy VA Beach and Norfolk. Quiet, secluded back in sites with power and water. Dump station in campground. Enjoyed the area family and friends!
I reserved the 67th street townhouse for Mother’s Day weekend online for 2 days with no problem. However, went to check the reservation at the MWR office I was informed that I had to stay for 5 days so the clerk changed it to 5 days. The day before check in I was told that I received an upgrade to the ocean side which came with a price increase. Whilst staying in the townhome we are hearing a loud knocking noise upstairs which is so loud that you can hear it downstairs and through out the residence. I was informed that no one was going to be in the MWR office on the weekends so we had to endure the irritating sound. In my opinion, It was a great place to stay years ago however it seems like it has lost its effulgence due to mismanagement.
Booked a camp site over the phone and received confirmation number. When we arrived, we were told they don’t accept those type of reservations any more. Huh?!?! Then we were told they were full, but had one spot open, until Sunday. However, they informed us, they don’t have anyone that works during the weekend or even after 5pm on any day. So, we could not check if anyone cancels or does not arrive on Sunday, because they only work when their customers are working, not when it’s convenient for guest. We left on Sunday as required, but many spots were open and unused. To see if it was just late checkins, we drove through twice more. Late Sunday and Monday around noon. 4 lots were still open with no reservations on them. But since no one works after 5pm Friday to Monday AM, no one could help authorize us a spot. The whole MWR Camp feels neglected and like someone is trying to kill it, rather than investing in it. It’s sad, because it’s such a great location to camp.
The Campgrounds are awesome! Not a lot sites for big RVs but there are some so plan ahead. Staff is great and now that the log cabins are gone I wonder if they are planning more RV sites? Fort Story is great, the beach is a short walk away, private, quiet and simply relaxing. This is our go to place in the VB area!
We highly recommend this campground. We met our non-DoD family members here to camp for 4 nights. It was easy getting them on and sponsoring them in the campground. We all enjoyed the quiet campground, the kids had fun exploring. We rode bikes from base to First Landing State Park. Felt like we had our own private beach on base. Enjoyed the lighthouse. We took a short drive to Norfolk and toured the base there. The showers were hot and the bath-house was clean. The people were very friendly too.
Great price, clean and simple. We fit 9 people in the suite comfortably enough with an extra air mattress in the loft. There were only two pots, one large and one small, so we could have brought an extra to make things a little easier. The bedrooms are very small and there isn't room to stick a playpen or any other large objects. We did bring a stand-up fan which fit nicely. There were four outlets in each bedroom. No DVD player, but the TV had good channels. Very close to the beach, which is much more private than the main part of the beach downtown. Would definitely come again!
