Nicer selection of plants and gardening supplies than some other local nurseries. And prices were comparable or considerably less. All the plants I've purchased were well adapted & healthy ( ...not "very recently" put into a pot, like some grocery store plants). Friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Its been awhile since I've been in here. They are expensive - I know that much. I bought several butterfly bushes that they grew locally and planted them along with some I bought from Home Depot. The Newman's butterfly bushes have always been weak, frail and sickly looking while those from Home Depot get 7 feet tall annually and are lush and hearty. Just my two cents...

Even though prices seem to be less that at most other nurseries in Santa Fe and ABQ, Newman's seems to have profit as the bottom line rather than service and quality. An owner, Malcolm, occurred as rude and contentious when responding to an inquiry about a type of plant. Quality of product is also not as high as at other nurseries, product failure is more likely based on experience in past years, and product is also mis-labeled with too much frequency. Staff are not willing to work with customers on discounts for plants that have been neglected and are barely alive or become otherwise unpresentable--they want full price or simply to discard these plants under the illusion that they will "transplant" them; the trash cans in the greenhouses were full of neglected or dead plants--including the plastic containers that are recyclable. In this type of plant on this day, there was no option for a vibrant, healthy, non-neglected one. When asked, they also said they will not provide any discount on any volume purchase (like half flat or full flat of 2.5" pots, for example, at $2.99 each this year). This nursery seems to engage in ripping off customers, and they do not value leaving customers with satisfaction. Agua Fria nursery, Plants of the Southwest, Waterwise, and Payne's are all reliable Santa Fe greenhouses in quality, service, and satisfaction even if they charge a bit more. This season, I noted landscapers purchasing from Agua Fria and Plants of the Southwest; I did not notice any at Newman's. Agua Fria in particular delivers on diversity like no other in the region; and Lowe's at least offers a 1 year guarantee on the plants they sell and honors it. Will not return to Newman's based on what I have experienced this year.

My most favorite local nursery. The staff are very helpful. Good selection of herbs, annuals, and roses.
