The good: The food and the cultural experience is great and it's so good to have a community center that celebrates Nordic heritage. We always enjoy our dining experience here once we are seated. The ambiance is carefully maintained and inspiring to behold, inside and outside the cafe. The museum and gift shop are always a delight to visit as well. The bad: The waits are always heroic here. It isn't our first choice brunch place for kids, just because it tests their patience and yours.* * The exception to this being Mother's day brunch - you get to make a reservation. Highly recommend!
We visited on a Sunday around 11am and were told the wait was about 2.5 hours! Unfortunately they do not take reservations, so we put our name down and ran some local errands. We came back and killed some time perusing the gift shop, the latest exhibit, and the outdoor grounds. We did end up getting seated about 3 hours after our initial arrival. The staff was friendly and the food and presentation was great.
The cutest property from the cafe to their little field they do shows in. I was so excited to work with them. Only downside was there were mosquitoes there and we got bit up, next time we will bring repellent. Everyone was just so nice and welcoming. Very underated organization and worth a visit to their store.
This place is wonderful. I love getting lost in the rotating exhibits and spending time with the land and people here. They offer workshops and various events for Nordic heritage exchange that I'd love to try. The restaurant, Broder Soder, is always a fabulous experience as well. Definitely come by if you are interested in Nordic culture. Or at the very least, enjoy some Nordic cuisine! ~ :
Loud and only a few tables indoors. Long wait. No reservations. Rain so outdoors was not viable. Brunch/breakfast menu. The best item was the seafood which was smoked salmon, pickled herring, and more. Delicious. We had the corned beef & potatoes. Very pedestrian. Our other diner had the mushroom casarole also quite good. The Akavit coffee Swedish coffee was very good.
The building n grounds are lovely n feel so ethnic as opposed to make believe. The food was amazingly delicious
Beautiful setting. Great restaurant Broder Soder, great exhibits, and great gift store.
Oregon Midsummer Festival was unique like so much else this year. It was so nice to mingle with other Scandinavians again. The grounds were set up in fantastic fashion so everyone could socially distance themselves. The Gnome scavenger hunt was a great activity for the kids.
My husband and I got married at Nordia House at the beginning of June. The whole event was amazing. The planning stages with Casey and Minna were a breeze. I brought them our vision, they explained what other options and additions they could help create and were very communicative throughout the entire process. The day of the event their whole team were consummate professionals. Everything was set up, they coordinated with our external vendors, and again, the staff was there to help at every turn. We even had our own person to take care of us, Molly. We were so busy receiving people, we didn’t stop at the buffet. They made us a plate of food delicious, btw and placed it at our sweetheart table so that we could take a quick break and get some much needed nourishment. Everything went off without a hitch and we were able to focus on all the love surrounding us that day! Besides the top notch service and planning, this place is gorgeous. It is in a great location, but hidden away from the street. Beautiful trees and landscaping make the back lawn the ideal place for a ceremony. The building has art exhibits inside, so there is some character to building, not a stark banquet hall. The Danish modern look of the ballroom with floor to ceiling windows on one wall allow for a tremendous amount of natural light. So, great service, delicious food, caring staff, and idyllic surrounding. What more could you ask for when planning a wedding!! I highly recommend this place.
Try their Broder restaurant which is open to the public. Quite wonderful Scandinavian food, and the popovers are to die for!
