This training club went above and beyond about how to speak the dogs language. I completed puppy class and novice class here and could not give them a higher recommendation. I now have a very well trained 2.5 yr old In tact male Cane Corso, who goes with me everywhere. I am a 5’6” 130 lb lady If you can not handle someone telling you your doing it wrong and you are l not speaking the dogs language, good luck. They were very honest with me on how I needed to carry myself so that my Baby Boy would always look to me as Alfa. They base their training on praise for rewards and the training collar for correction. I can honestly say I tried another class since I have moved out of state. We used treats for reward and within the first week my dog learned to eat leftover human food from the trash. I will stick with the method that the Obedience Training Club of Hawaii taught me. Thank you Melonie and Volunteers. You are strong individuals and you do not allow misbehaving owners to skate through the corse.
Having someone laugh and yell at me for not knowing how to train my dog isn't what I expected in a dog training class. Telling our class that we look dumb might not be the way to keep customers. I came here to learn. I'd rather spend my Thursday nights and my money elsewhere. My fiance confirmed the Saturday morning class with the twin women trainers are great. Stay away from Thursday nights!!!!!
BEWARE this obedience club uses physical punishment to train. The orientation for classes and their website do not provide any information on what behaviors they train or how they train a warning sign itself, so the vast majority of people go in blind and unable to choose if they are okay with this. They use a 'throw chain' in their training, which can be used just to get your dog's attention, but they use it as a chain to throw at and hit your dog in the rump with. They will try to shame you into using it, as I was told that if the owner was 'too timid' to hit the dog, then they would do it for you. I was lectured on how this is a 'long standing' method for dog training. The fact that this method has been used for decades should indicate that they haven't caught up with the times and the new techniques available. There are MUCH better, *positive reinforcement* methods that have been developed in the intervening decades that don't involve making your dog afraid of you. So if you attend their obedience classes just be aware that they will expect you to hit your dog. I would highly recommend finding another trainer that uses modern techniques.
We went to these classes for many years and found them the best, anywhere.
