Old South Restaurant

I think the fried green tomatoes are cut a bit too thick. The house dressing is pretty yummy. Mashed potatoes were gross. Gravy, pork chops, green beans and chicken fried steak were pretty good. The rolls were nasty. When it comes to rolls yeast rolls are far better than sourdough by far. I love sourdough just not as a roll ever. The rolls were cold and dry.

Old South is on the National Register of Historic Places. That alone makes a visit to this 1940s diner worth your time. But an even better reason to drop in is the delicious home cooking and extraordinary service. I had the fresh Gulf snapper special on my most recent visit and found it perfectly cooked, flaky and seasoned just right. My wife had the chicken-fried steak, which she declared among the best she's ever eaten in a restaurant--lightly battered, fork tender and covered with a scrumptious white gravy. We can't wait to get back again for another visit.

Fantastic southern breakfast options. Staff is friendly, efficient, and pleasant. Other food options are quite good too. Chicken fried steak is the best!

my family has eaten here for many years. it is the best food around in the state and we have never had anything that wasn't the best food in every way. Highly recommended

Friendly service, great charm! I love eating in the front where I can feel the history there. Food is traditional Southern fare and delicious.
