On The Hook

This place is better than Boiling Crab. I shared a pound of shrimp and a pound of clams with my friend. The clams were fresh and big. Also we got a basket of fried zucchini and it was the best fried zucchini that I had compared to other places.

So I found this place by accident. You can’t tell much from the outside but saw a few people wondering in so I gave it a chance. It’s a simple little restaurant that seems to cater to locals and regulars. They thanked me for choosing them while I was in town. Friendly staff. So What’s important. The food was very good. I had the lunch special. Shrimp sandwich and a cup of gumbo. Fair price for a very good lunch. I will be back.

This restaurant is always compared to Boiling Crab and many people have argued one viewpoint vs the other. In terms of straight up Cajun, Boiling Crab wins. Their flavor is more bold overall. But it's also much more unhealthier. On the Hook has better quality seafood, more options overall, and has healthy food options as well. Their alcohol selection is significantly better than Boiling Crab's, and I've never seen food being out of stock whereas at Boiling Crab, they are always out of dungeoness crab (fresh). Service is better here and the patrons aren't roudy and ghetto.

Loved it. Our first time at this type of seafood restaurant. Friendly staff. Margaritas were yummy. Shrimp with All Hooked Up sauce was recommended and it was delish. Only $2 for peeled shrimp. King crab was fresh.. Market prices listed up front, so no surprises. Fun. Just a tip: If you're going for the alacart seafood, don't wear jewelry or a nice long sleeve top.

We go here as much as we can... especially for special occasions. Our favorite indulgence is the king crab. It never disappoints. It is prepared and cut to make access easy. The beignets are the best this side of Louisiana.
