My husband and I were at the place on the corner, it serves very very simple american food. We got beer and I decided not to eat there, we went a few doors down to Pad Thai. We have never had Thai food before and he was really skeptical. First, we had the summer rolls which were uncooked and amazing. SO fresh. This was a Saturday night and the place wasn't very crowded at all which is a shame!. I felt like the food was very reasonably priced, it's not discount but the quality is nice enough to justify much more. I ordered the Jungle Curry, he ordered Drunken Noodles. Both were amazing but the Jungle Curry was easily one of the best meals I've had in my life. Yes, really. It was SCORCHING hot though. You could take a walk down south street and come back and it would still be hot at the table. You also should know that you can get a second order of protein with any dish for $2 more. That's $2 for like.. 8 more shrimp or chicken, beef, tofu.. etc. What a good deal! I got some mixed drinks that were all really amazing. Makes up for the terrible beer selection. The bathrooms were nice and clean. I will be eating here again, without question. We got two beers, two mixed drinks, an app and two VERY filling dinners for a total of $60. Everyone was very attentive and we ordered right after a huge party of like 12 people.. still out food was out in a few minutes!
There are a lot of good Thai restaurants in the city and even though south st spots can be overrated, this place is a go-to. The menu has plenty of options to suite your tastes from dumplings to pad Thai to curry. They are not afraid of spice here which is a plus for me. I recommend the red curry with shrimp. I used a groupon on my visit and had no hassle from the staff.
So the menu is a mix of Thai and American Chinese food, the one thing that I relish about this place is that they simply do not mess around with the heat. It is absolutely the place to go for take out if you're looking for something that has a great level of spice to it assuming you're ordering a spicy dish. I'm a big fan of the Szeuchuan Chicken and it is awesome. Not sure what folks are complaining about regarding service. Delivery is generally super fast. When I have eaten in the place, it's usually not packed at all. It's no frills as far as they take your order and bring your food. The staff didn't seem overly concerned with me but at the same time, I'm not going to go where other reviewers claim and say they were neglectful. Bottom line, the food is rock solid and one of my favorite places to order when it comes to getting hot spicy food that I love.
I was kind of reluctant to try any Thai food because of the spices that were incorporated into their dishes. As I was taking a stroll down South Street when I happen to come across this restaurant. I said to myself, what the hell, let's give it a try. Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately greeted with a warm smile. My orders consisted of "papaya salad" as my appetizer. It was very delicious. Not too hot, not too mild. just the right mixture of spices. And for my main course I chose "chicken pad thai", and let me tell you this, it was the most delicious asian cuisine I have ever experienced. For dessert I had the "chocolate torte". PERFECT!! The meal was awesome and the service was superb! I give this restaurant 5 Stars.
The food portion here are really huge yet still delicious! I ordered pad thai and my friend ordered a dry pot beef. Both of them are tasty and the service we're receiving is excellent!! Definitely coming back!
The person who picked up the phone was just ignorant. You can barely hear the guy, ask him to speak up and he spoke even lower. Right there I should have hung up but I was really in the mood for pad Thai. He said it would take 45 minutes. The food finally came after 1.5 hours. The pad Thai was awful and barely had any flavor. Just an all around bad experience from the service to the food.
I don't write reviews but I have never been treated with such blatant disregard...Went there for my cousin's birthday. We had a party of 5, 3 of which never had thai before. When we arrived, the place was empty probably a red flag. We all had coats on yet no one offered to take our coats or even show us where the coat closet was perhaps another flag but we didn't complain, why ruin the night sweating the small stuff... The wait staff place our dishes in front of us and walk away. I look down & instead of drunken noodles there were regular thai noodles in my plate. So I questioned a waitor passing by and he says "oh we ran out of drunken noodles" then the waitress that took the order steps in and says "yeah but they are like the same thing" ummm that's like ordering mac and cheese and getting sphagetti noodles, yes they are both made with semolina BUT IT'S NOT THE SAME! But I let it go. We were enjoying our meals when the waitress comes to us and says "just to let you guys know, we close at 11"....it was 1037 and the menu stated that they closed at 12...didn't think to tell us this when we arrived at 845? Then they begin to circle around us, basically rushing us to eat, but we were pretty much done anyway so it soo unnecessary. My cousin had her food packed and as I was handing the waitress my plate to pack, she says again "we're closing at 11" at that point I'd had it so I said "we are packing up to leave, so there is no reason for you to be saying it again" she mumbles something under her breath and walks away. I asked to speak to the manager and she was beyond rude. I mean if the manager has no sense of customer service how could you expect the wait staff to have any. There is so much more I can write but this is long enough. BOTTOM LINE: The food was good but the SERVICE was HORRIBLE. I'd go to a place that sereved mediocre food with excellent service any day. Pad Thai will never see my $ again. There are other Thai spots in Philly, so please don't go here.
Ordered through GrubHub. Very happy with the wonton soup, broccoli and beef on the sweet side, not as savory but the kids loved it, shrimp fried rice and the chicken lo mein. Will order again!
Ordered delivery and it was disgusting. Even before tasting the pad Thai I knew it was going to be bad. The vegetables looked old and there was no sauce on it. Inspired me to write a review because it was so bad
Pad thai sucks, nothing but soy sause and peanuts, ordering online is worst, missing an order of food, called to tell the waitress, she argued that everything is there then hangs up the phone. Stay away!!!
