It was certainly a very busy evening at this place on a Sunday evening! I had heard and read a lot of good things about the place. The drinks did not disappoint but the food was mostly cold, and average Indian food. The spice level was dialed down but it was definitely good. I will try and visit again on a non-busy day to hopefully experience better food and service.
Really delicious if pricey Indian Food! The first time I came here was during COVID, and that was only for takeout, so this has been on my list for a while to come back to. We ordered paneer and lamb kabobs that were wrapped in a naan bread which were basically like Indian tacos, and they were really good. The paneer also had mango powder, but I really couldn't taste it, it sorta just tasted like the lamb kabob lol. It could be the green sauce which were on both that overpowered that flavor. For entrees we ordered the Taar Gosht and the Butter Chicken. The butter chicken had a really nice complex flavor with a really sweet tomato profile. The Taar Gosht, had nice flavor as well, but nothing super noteworthy from me. We also ordered the breadbasket of naan. We got the chili naan which was just naan with chilis on it, the garlic naan and the roti naan. They were just okay. I didn't really taste any difference between the 3 to be honest. Very nice spot overall.
The food was excellent, I found the flavors to be extremely unique. The jamun was the only let down, though the ice cream made up for it. The service was bad - enough to ruin the dining experience. Our waiter was not courteous and couldn’t care less about us.
I would call this place 'upscale Indian date night restaurant or people who like curry flavors but can't handle the spice' - perfect location in the heart of 14th street really, they really nailed that demographic. Drinks are a highlight, food is good, ambiance is top notch, and the place is very busy and very lively. We managed to walk in and snag a place at the bar, but that was very much so luck of the draw. I'm sure if you want authentic super spicy curry there are probably lots of dives in the city that would better suit, but if you want a place with solid, flavorful indian food in an upscale but casual location that isn't as overwhelming as a Rasika this is a good choice.
Food was good. We did take out as were are visiting. They cannot customize dishes if you have dietary restriction. Overall a fun experience Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian options if Indian food
Leaning more towards a 3.5. We initially came for happy hour to get their Kati rolls, but once we were seated we were told the happy hour is only at the bar. We decided to have dinner and order from the menu. We started with the samosa chaat which was pretty disappointing. Very small and didn't have all the usual toppings. For entrees we split the allepey fish curry, lamb shank curry, tandoori chicken, and paneer masala. We also ordered 3 garlic naans. This was all split within a party of 5. Out of everything we ordered the fish curry was the best thing. It was sea bass which was delicious and really flavorful. The lamb was presented well, but the taste was a little bland. The naan was good but small, order at least one per person. Mango lassi was good. Overall out of everything we ordered I only enjoyed my mango lassi and the fish curry. Everything else was average.
This app seriously needs a 1/2 star option. As it was better than 4 star but not 5. Butter chicken was on point. Almost too much meat to sauce ratio as I ordered the garlic Naan to lap up the butter chicken sauce. Spice and flavor wise it's a solid dish. The mango lassee was solid as well. For desert went with the cream brule option and it was 3.5ish. They prepare it with their own twist and maybe that's why it's 3.5 to my pallette. It wasn't bad. It wasn't great and for the empty calories I want some great dessert. But give it a try and let me know what you think.
Hostess didn’t check in with us after seating for about 10 mins, the bar tender finally had to come over and take our order. Some reviews over the past few weeks on Google have indicated staff issues looks like they are still resolving them. The food took even longer-25 min wait for the food to arrive, only saving grace was the food, reasonable quality. If you are looking for a good night out I would avoid making this your destination for the night! Hope the restaurant owners really focus on the service, the food and ambiance is great and it’s sad to see it get negated just because of the service.
In Washington DC after visiting various attractions all day we went to Indian restaurants called Pappe! Every food item on a menu has some kind of twist and fusion but that does not compromise the authentic tastes of Indian food. The place has an amazing raw and authentic ambience. We tried Indian thali and it was awesome.
We went on a impromptu trip to Washington DC. After visiting various attractions all day we searched for some good Indian restaurants and we found Pappe! Every food item on a menu has some kind of twist and fusion but that does not compromise the authentic tastes of Indian food. 1 The Chillitini and the old monk cocktail is a must try! 2 Pappe has an amazing raw and authentic ambience. We tried tandoori chicken, gobi manchurian, chicken Malabar and biryani. I would rate everything 5/5!!! 3 Also, one of my friend follows Jainism cannot eat root vegetables and some fruits. After giving the chef/manager a list of food items my friend couldn’t eat, the chef quickly made the food without giving a second thought! And this rarely happens with my friends since he cannot eat root vegetables and restaurant managers or chefs always don’t accommodate such requests. 4 don’t miss the Rasmalai tres leches and the chai crème brûlée!!!
