At first I'd say they're a decent company to have as your landlord, but at the end of my three year stay, things went from good to bad. In September 2014, I was notified that the unit below mine was experiencing water intrusion, and work would have to be done on my deck to fix it. Okay, no worries, easy fix. The people hired to work on the deck show up in early October, tear it out, and do nothing else. They disappeared because the property management company not Paragon had refused to pay them for the work, so they naturally refused to continue work. I had to dog Paragon to get on the other company's case, and even then, the work did not resume and get finished until MAY 2015, SIX MONTHS LATER. Sure, Paragon gave me a small discount for it the inconvenience and hassle, but why am I the one having to constantly follow up on it? Lastly, they did a bait and switch on me with my security deposit, as when I did my final walkthrough with Chris, he said that I was good to go, and that I'd get things refunded just fine. That wasn't the case, as they charged me an extra $247 for cleaning because Chris went back and "did a more thorough inspection" and of course found that "...the oven and refrigerator needed some additional cleaning and some other minor areas.", which apparently took 7.5hrs to clean up. I would also like to point out he never did bother to inform me of these new charges, and it wasn't until I got my deposit back with the invoice attached did I find out about it. Paragon is a decent company, they just really don't do much, and like to tack on extra costs without informing you.
I also had Paragon Properties do a bait and switch on me with my security deposit. When I did my final walkthrough with Chris, he said that I was "good to go" three times, even in email, and that I would get my full security deposit back. Then I was charged an extra $200 for cleaning and flat $135 for my last maintenance request with no heads up until the security deposit notice was returned. When I called to question why the amount had been reduced from the promised full amount, the secretary assured me that Chris was busy on three separate occasions and would not give me a direct line. I finally got ahold of him four days later and he was curt and rude over the phone. He simply stated that "I thought it would be all good but it is up to the owner and not me" and "the new price is what the owner decided". He did not take responsibility for his actions, blamed the owner, showed no remorse for doing a bait and switch, and failed to apologize for never giving me a heads up. He even said "It is just $300, you are lucky it is not more than that." I am so thankful I only had to deal with Paragon Properties for a couple of months. It was a horrible experience that caused additional stress to what should be an easy transition.
Not a good choice for Alaska
Very flimsy for a $1100 place. Everything is cheap material. Toilet broke, took a week for them to fix it.This place is a joke.
As an owner, not a renter, they keep my place rented to excellent tenants every time.
