Moved my daughter in for her sophomore year. Apartment was immaculate and staff was super friendly and helpful. The only negative was the hot tub didn’t look too clean.
Living at Park Place wasn't what I imagined it would be. When I moved in I had to pay $700 for a parking pass to get into the garage and a couple months in my unit was infested with ants. Even after calling the exterminator, the ant infestation was still ongoing and one of the workers in the office downstairs insinuated that the ants were there because me and my roommate were messy when that wasn't the case. Don't live here if you don't have to.
There was a pool party going on outside during the time my sister was scheduled to take an at home exam on lockdown browser. She respectfully asked the staff to turn down the music so she could focus on her own exam but they straight told her no. This place is a joke, the music was so loud you could hear it inside her bedroom. This apartment has no quiet study rooms. If you care about your grades, DO NOT LIVE HERE!
LONG REVIEW BUT A MUST READ BEFORE YOU CONSIDER THIS PLACE!! My daughter lived on the first floor of Park Place 2021-2022. We picked this place for the amenities and security. First not all amenities were available throughout the year, if ever, and the door to the first floor parking deck was not secure for the second semester. Anyone could enter the building by slightly tugging the door open. Regardless of the reports made about the door it was not repaired before the end of the semester. The washer/dryer unit went out and they took over 2 weeks to replace it. In the last few weeks the refrigerator leaked water on floor but apparently it was too close to the end of the semester to even consider repair. To top that off, on move-out day after my daughter, the last to move out of the apartment, did her walk-thru with the RA and exited her apartment, she locked the apartment door which has to be locked from outside WITH THE KEY. She checked it was locked as she always does, then went directly to the mailroom where she filled out her envelope and put her keys in it and dropped the in the key drop box, all as instructed. THIS WAS ALL WITNESSED BY ME. Then she receives a lock change charge of $175!!!! I contacted the property manager and spoke with a woman, who seriously lacks customer service skills, told me that she received keys but they were the wrong keys. And further went on to say that students often don't use their keys throughout the year and when it is time to turn them in and can't find them they just turn in random keys to avoid the charge. I assured her that my daughter who lives in an UNSECURED building locks her door when she is in her apartment and every time she leaves it and it was with the EXACT key she turned in. She told me it was impossible for them to mix the keys up. REALLY??? BE AWARE WHEN YOU TURN IN KEYS! It is your word against theirs and you lose. Had I known this would be the case I would have requested that the property manager watch me lock the doors and sign an acknowledgement. I am guessing since my daughter was the last to leave the next person who went into that apartment had to unlock it....BECAUSE SHE LOCKED IT WITH THE KEY SHE TURNED IN!! Seems very SCAMMY.
seems like you hardly have real privacy. they come in the rooms for health and safety checks, inspections several times in one semester. always in and out of your space.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would it was that bad. I lived here my freshman year at college and it was the worse experience of my life. It's highly overpriced for what you get. The amenities were closed half the year, the fingerprint scanners didn't work, there was no door handle on both second floor stair wells, there was a full on dookie in the middle of the hallway, puke stayed on the stairs for a week, the fire alarms going off at 2am, and reeks. They say it's the nicest places to stay but it's not, don't fall for their trap and spend your money here. Also do not drink the water, Columbia has some of the worst water in the nation.
living in Park Place was not even on my list of freshman housing that i applied to stay in, but unfortunately i got stuck there. Firstly, this place is so inconvenient for freshman bc of how far it is from campus, especially if you don’t have a car. Not to mention how expensive it is for absolutely no reason. they advertise all these amenities, but they are literally never open or broken. They make you sign in just to use the gym that we literally are paying for and same with the pool. and both of these amenities have a mass capacity of like 5 for no reason so no one can ever use them. They also only open these very few amenities at the most inconvenient times, and even when they say they’ll be open, they aren’t. Most of us had to go use other apartments amenities bc of how slack management was with this persistent issue. The management itself was terrible. completely incompetent and were the most unhelpful with every single issue. They would find ways to charge you for the smallest things, especially the parking gate. this gate was literally broken 3 times a week and is just a plastic arm that’s barely attached back on when fixed. I was charged $920 for breaking this gate that is quite literally worth $65 i looked it up. and seeing how much this gate was broken, there is no way the staff isn’t just pocketing that money themselves. they even upped the price later to $5000 for breaking the gate, even accidentally, which is absolutely ridiculous. what college student can pay that in a week? because if not payed in 7 days, you will be sent to the columbia police and arrested for vandalism. so there’s that. any one that is thinking of living here, don’t. it’s gross, musty, overpriced, and has terrible management. would not recommend.
Looks nice at first but built very cheaply and staff is incompetent. Parking garage is nice to have but extremely hard to drive in. Also, the cop on the first floor is probably one of the most unpleasant human beings I have ever come in contact with... The one on the top floor is pretty nice though. The gym and free coffee downstairs is really great. The pool is also pretty nice during the summer. I would have stayed here but they decided to jack the rent up and go into business with USC.
Park Place has so much to offer! I feel safe living here! They secure the door with a finger print scanner, which only residents have access to. To make it better Park Place has 24/7 on site police officers for the residents safety and comfort. It is hard to find a place where you can feel safe especially when you're not familiar with the city, but Park Place makes me feel like I'm at home! I've been here for a year and couldn't find a better place to stay! They have the biggest gym compared to the other off campus apartments and they also provide free printing! As a student I believe Park Place saves us money from having to get a gym membership, a printer and getting a coffee machine because they also provide free STARBUCKS COFFEE!! over all I can say I am truly happy here with the amazing staff in the office, the great amenities and the extremely nice officers that are on site!!
Management is terrible; shower head was covered in mildew and even mold so I mentioned it to Cindy Byrd and she had the audacity to tell me that it wasn't mold. My roommate and I keep everything very clean and tidy yet there were roaches crawling into our rooms and even in the hallways. Walls are so thin so you hear everything and as mentioned in other reviews, they lure you in with their amenities but honestly you're not getting what you pay for. Save yourself some money and go somewhere else!!
