Do not rent here! They will not explain your charges and will over charge/double charge. It will take 7-10 days for the charges to go back to your card or 3-5 depending what customer service rep you speak to. The rental counter was extremely slow, laughing and joking with other staff rather than focusing on customers and actually doing their job. I rented an SUV and was given a hatchback. Also it seemed like they were purposefully working slow to issue cars in the parking garage. At one point the staff member walked away from a huge line and disappeared for 10min. I also had issues with tire pressure the entire drive from TX to IN and had to make several stops to refill air. When calling customer service about my overcharges I was lied to by the 1st rep and spoke to 3 more after that until someone could finally address the issue. Save yourself time, money and frustration and DO NOT RENT FROM PAYLESS!
My wife suffered a massive heart attack while we were on our trip and had a Payless rental. After 8 days in the hospital in Corpus Christi, I finally was able to drive her home. She wasn’t allowed to fly. When I returned the car in Wichita airport, they told me, “not there problem” and charge me a $2000 drop fee! My total rental was $4016!!!!! NEVER RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE! They are heartless profit mongers that only car about $$$$. And have not sympathy or concern for people that have unexpected medical emergencies.
They charged an additional $300, claiming it was for an upgrade. I rented a compact car, I was given a Toyota corolla, and I prepaid my reservation with Expedia. I returned the car with a FULL TANK of gas and they also charged me an additional $50 for fuel. DO NOT use this company. They will add unauthorized charges to your credit card. I am not going to pay close to $700 for a TWO DAY RENTAL. This place is just abusive and a scam.
The SUV rented had 28k miles and it rode rough. It wasn't clean and just raggedy for a newer rental car. Couldn't believe how bad of shape this vehicle was in. Scratches and dents everywhere.
This was the quickest check in and checkout of any rental car in my life. Plus, the price was crazy low. Literally, “your car is in space c20, keys are in it see you soon. Check in was, did you fill it up and where r the keys? Have a nice day.
Even though I had a pre-paid reservation I was told there were NO CARS. I was forced to wait 2 hours and when I finally was told a car was ready and went to the lot there were lots 30+ cars ready to go on the lot! When I returned the car I was over-charged and I am now having to deal with getting my refund!!! I will never rent from Payless/Avis again!
I do not like to write negative reviews and I feel like I generally have a good outlook on life and try to make the best of things. So, I will try to include the good things in here as well. My flight into San Antonio, TX arrived at 12:30 in the morning. The airport offices for all rental car companies closed around 10:00 p.m. possibly due to COVID-19 so, that is what it is. I simply scheduled my car for the next morning for a 10:30 a.m. pickup. My first issue began with Payless itself. Although there were many signs guiding me and several others to the Payless center, once I arrived at the parking level where the office was supposed to be, there was not a single indicator as to where the desk was. Only after asking several other agents of other car rental companies, did I understand that Payless was run by Avis. Watching others, I wasn’t the only one who was confused by this – the email confirmation they sent me certainly never mentioned it, nor did the person on the phone when I called to confirm. Then there was the line. Again, I am normally patient. But the line only kept getting longer and many were getting frustrated – see the photos. In total, I was in line for close to 90 minutes. Now for the positives: the agent I worked with was very kind and explained that this influx of renters was due to an annual Mexican holiday like they knew about it but didn’t plan for more agents to work, the car was new and handled really well, and we had no issues returning the car park it, leave the keys, and we’ll send you a receipt. Payless was definitely the cheapest. If you want to save money and are willing to put up with a little inconvenience then Payless may be your place.
They did a superb job of getting us checked in quickly to our vehicle and out the door in a timely fashion so we could get to the hospital to see our first grandbaby be born definitely be using this company again.
I actually try to refrain from giving negative reviews. But when it comes to dishonest money! … I rented the car on booking.com which I’ve used plenty of times before. Paid in full online . Picked up the car for the weekend, paid a $250 hold that they return when you drop the car , filled up the gas and returned it on Sunday . Well Sunday I was emails a receipt theyre taking $170 out of my $250 hold. Why? I called and they’re charging $120 for gas . THE GAS WAS COMPLETELY FULL when k returned it . And some other charges for $50 . I sent my my shell receipt from the morning I dropped off. I still have not got any of my $250 back. And I will cont to call customer service untill I do. This is so dishonest . I paid for the car , brought it back clean and full. Just make sure you take pictures of the cars when you pick them up and drop Them off please.
DO NOT RENT a car from this company. Husband Rented vehicle in Houston drove straight to San Antonio.Dropped car off guy scanned car in all good. 3 weeks later we get a letter car smelled like smoke. He doesn't smoke and was alone in vehicle. Called to dispute guy says we have pictures of ashes in the car. Pictures we didnt get.The rep said he would send it off to someone higher up as dispute and would call him back..WHY THIS REVIEW??. Still no call back on the dispute, but they took $425 from bank account for this FALSE claim that ONLY THEY have pictures of! RENTERS BE AWARE!! SHADY COMPANY!!!!!
