RUN, DON’T WALK AWAY FROM THIS PRACTICE. Administration is dramatically understaffed, unprofessional, screens phone calls and intentionally does not return messages confirmed by myself AND my insurance company. Doctors simply do not care. They may have years of wisdom and experience, but consideration of patient’s feelings is out the window. In crisis, the patient is not a priority. Prior authorizations take MONTHS despite repeatedly pleading phone calls. It seems like this practice takes on more patients than it can handle and the people in need do not receive the care they deserve. I had a terrible medication reaction, early in the day was prescribed a sedative until the side effects wore off, and wound up having to suffer an entire holiday weekend because the doctor couldn’t be bothered to process a simple prior authorization even though I called multiple times to beg for it DURING OFFICE HOURS. The same type of prior authorization my new doctor takes care of within no more than two hours anytime my insurance pushes back and needs that extra step taken. Their therapists also don’t make an effort to connect with their patients and truly resolve their issues. You don’t deserve to pay for care like this no matter how sparse the options for treatment are in this area. Avoid this place.
It was very fortunate of me to get in here and see Dr. Rowe. The front desk staff are very helpful and scheduling appointments is easy. The work the staff here does is important and vital to their community. This line of medical care has unique challenges and this office is exemplary in their work. You will probably have to take time off from work to make their office hours. The office is sort of hidden around the back side of the parking lot.
I have no clue why this place has low ratings. 1. Dr Yetter is a GOD SEND. He actually understands mental conditions. He solved problems that both Navy medical and the Dept of Veteran Affairs either could not or refused to solve. His patient education is superior. He is beyond easy to talk to. He treated me with care and respect. An absolute breath of fresh air compared to the 8+ mental health professionals I had previously tried. I thought I was the problem, turns out I just needed a doctor who knows what he is talking about, and even looked into where I could get the best price for my medication. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this doctor. 2. The nurses/administrative staff always answers, and if it is imperative to leave a voicemail, they respond the same day. The new patient process was simplified greatly thanks to them. Their instructions were easy to follow. They also treated me with absolute kindness and patience. If I could give them 100 stars, I would. I can only imagine the negative feedback is either from a previous doctor/staff that no longer works there, or from the patients lack to follow simple instruction. This is a kind and brilliant clinic that actually cares for its patients, and consistently exceed expectations.
"Dr" Melinda Barker has a wonderful, money-making scheme worked out here! I just figured it out today! The $75 missed call fee!! I said 'hello' and it just didn't connect for whatever reason. Maybe because she uses a 'No Caller ID' block. I already paid $15. Now they want a $75 fee before I can make another appointment. ...All because this lady can't hit redial?? Not once? To check on her patients. Don't we have 15 minutes carved out? My meds run out in less than three weeks. The office said the will not let me see the other doctor! I hope Melinda is spreading that money around to the office people that do her paperwork, they are just as guilty as she is, shaking crying people down with no other options for help, over the phone.
I honestly have never been treated so disrespectfully in my entire life. Melinda Barker has no business treating anybody for mental health. The entire process just to get a 1-hour phone call with her was extremely insulting, demeaning, and degrading. The six page form that they expect you to fill out is nothing but a laundry list of things that you could do wrong to get you dismissed and a clear judgement of anyone struggling in their lives. After you send them all of your information then they will give you an appointment, but you have to call two days ahead of time to verify your appointment otherwise they cancel your appointment and they ban you. I called and verified my appointment and I was waiting by the phone for the phone call and when I went to answer my phone it malfunctioned and it ended up rejecting the call rather than answering. A few moments later I had a voicemail in my voicemail box saying that because I had missed my first appointment that I would no longer be able to make another appointment and that I was no longer welcome there. I called the office in a panic because it had taken me more than six weeks to get the appointment, and they already had my money for my copay. I was told that they would see what they could do, but if she refused to call me back that I would have to go elsewhere for treatment. At that point I was so upset and frustrated and angry because basically they just wasted all of my time and now I had nothing to show for it. Nobody with any mental illness should ever be subjected to this type of treatment. After a few minutes she ended up calling me back and started asking me a bunch of questions off of her "psychological evaluation". She started asking me personal questions about my childhood and the trauma that I had experienced, and those are only things that I talk about with people that I trust. And I certainly didn't trust her when she showed no compassion no warmth no sign of caring whatsoever. I expressed to her my displeasure with how I was treated and she immediately told me that she didn't think we were a good therapeutic match. And she immediately hung up on me before I could say anything. Nobody deserves to be treated this way mental illness or not. She thinks that she can treat people like they are less than human, like they are criminals, like we are the scum on the bottom of her shoes. And if you call her out on it she immediately dismisses you because she can. I hope that anybody reading this seriously reconsiders their choice and going with this practice. You deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. And there is no reason why anybody should feel that they have the right to treat you that way.
Agree with the office being unprofessional. They do not return calls, keep a good schedule, act in any proactive manner... the list could go on. This place needs a new manager ASAP. Also was told I couldn't speak to a supervisor because they were working from home and then they wouldn't provide me with their e-mail? Pretty sure that's not how that works... With that being said, I love my doctor Dr. Yetter; I fear that good doctor's will lose patients due to this discourteous and rude staff.
A couple years ago I had a fantastic Dr. here. Sadly she left. I was passed off to one Dr, she left, then to another Dr. That was Dr Melinda Barker. I've never had a psychiatrist that taunted you and was passive aggressive! I called the office after a dose of Dr Barker only to find out she owns the practice per her office staff. That explains all the good doctors leaving! After swiftly transferring to a new Dr, their practice wants to charge just to release my records to the new Dr, which is standard procedure when you switch drs or go to a specialist. They don't charge! Also the building pictured here is not in Chesapeake, it's the Haygood office. Do yourself and your sanity a favor run the other way
I saw Dr. Yetter while I was being treated at VB Psych and he is a wonderful doctor. However, I was supposed to have a phone appointment with him today at 4:30 and he never called. I called and left him a message and he called me back, stating there were no appointments for me in the computer at all. You are supposed to call and confirm your appointment two days prior, which I did and was told my appointment was confirmed. I thought everything was good to go. My appointment date and time were also on my discharge paperwork from VB Psych. He told me he was sorry and to call the office tomorrow and have them add me to his schedule for sometime this week. Now, I am upset and worried that I’m not in their system for some reason and I won’t be able to see him again. All I need are med refills. I don’t understand how this could have happened. I really needed to see him today. He told me to call and talk to his secretary, Alta, tomorrow and get me added into the computer but that should have already been done. I’m upset and worried and now I can only hope and pray that Alta can help me reschedule my appointment with him soon as I am out of my medication.
My fiancé made an appointment and due to COVID, was an over the phone appt. I made sure her phone was set up as instructed so the call would not be blocked. Dr. Barker tried to call twice and her phone NEVER rang. I called after her getting nowhere with the office, only to be told the same thing. What kind of practice doesn't take into consideration that technology screws up, then DOES NOT allow a reschedule due to being a new patient. I work with this kind of stuff, so I definitely know that everything was set up correctly. Avoid this place if you can.
If I could give this place no stars I would. Never in my life have I been to a more unprofessional office. The receptionist is so incredibly unfriendly and the office is small, cramped and feels like a closet. Not a very comfortable place for ANYONE like myself who has high anxiety. You're never greeted and when you are, you're greeted by a VERY rude woman only to have a glass window slammed in your face and not to mention, the wait is consistently long. I just paid almost $50 for my 30 minute visit to be 5 minutes long just to have Dr. Barker not remember me and just hand me a refill slip. I was there to talk, not just for a refill. I paid for a session, not a refill. If that was the case, I'd call and ask for a refill and not waste my time or money. Never going back again. I need a therapist that cares and definitely need a more relaxing office. My anxiety goes through the roof everytime I'm there. Not to mention, I had to reschedule my appointment twice which is hard for me to do since I stay at home with my baby and my husband works 6 days a week. If you're looking for a friendly staff, a good, caring doctor and a relaxing atmosphere, run very far away from this place.
