We came here for dinner for our friends birthday. We had a large party and came in around 7:30 on Sunday night. The service was terribly slow, they were out of several things we tried to order, appetizers came out with the meals and a server split soup all over my friend. When we informed our server about the soup spilt all over her pants he replied "oh that's my boy". The food itself was quite good so we would like to return to try more food but think we will go to another location for better service.
Great spot for birthdays and celebrations. The food had some unexpected flavors, everything was delicious and well prepared. The staff were all friendly and provided great service. While everything is "open" from a required-precautions perspective, there is an ongoing pandemic and incomplete population vaccination, so I was surprised and a bit disappointed that no staff were wearing masks in the indoor dining space that was reasonably busy - if you are being cautious about COVID exposure, you may prefer the take-out/delivery options.
Authentic South African food with a fine dining twist. Stays true to the meat culture of South Africa so not too many options for vegetarians. Bunny chow and espetada are definitely the stars of the menu. Don't miss out on the biltong South African beef jerky though as it's hard to find such good quality in Houston. Impressive wine selection. Unique decor in the dining area with an eclectic bar accessible from the street entrance. This is a great place to take friends or a date for great food or drinks or both.
Blown away. Visited during Houston Restaurant Week without realizing for my birthday and it was amazing. The food is delectable. The service was impeccable. We showed up an hour before closing by mistake and they still gave excellent service without rushing. The food was insanely good and I almost never say this. Everything was delicious and VERY WELL SEASONED. Our jaws dropped when we tasted their Chicken Trechapa* down to the cod! The only thing bad was the parboiled wild rice but we didn't care it was still so flavorful. It was a steal and an experience for only 35$ for a three course dinner! The drinks were strong and very good as well. Everything was great, good vibe and great sense of style. Worth visiting again.
I read about Peli Peli on multiple portals, blogs, Instagram and read reviews and I was super excited to be here. It's located in the Galleria mall and finding a self-parking spot is very difficult during busy hours. You can reserve the a table online and that's highly recommended. Ambience- I felt a little congested inside the restaurant. The roof had some light arrangements which gave me headache. The tables are very close to each other and the ambience is very noisy. Service - unfortunately, it was upsetting for us, though I read people had amazing service. The manager gave us a table of our choice but things weren't good after that. The server greeted us with no interest and was very "strict" to us that we were honestly scared to ask her any questions. They were not good to us and we were extremely uspet with the service. The experience after this was not so good... Food - the peli Peli chicken wings were very good. I definitely liked them and thought of ordering them again. Next, we ordered the chicken espetada and it looked amazing. We got the chimichurri sauce and the peli Peli sauce with rice. We also tried the South African curry with was very creamy and so delicious. Overall, it was a very okay experience.
Peli Peli is my husband's favorite restaurant. He took me and it instantly became our favorite restaurant. That was 8 1/2 years ago at the Cypress location where we met Chef Paul and he told us about the Peppadew Pepper to cleanse our palette. We recently went to celebrate me and my friend's birthday and had an amazing time; expectedly so! Dante provided excellent service! The food is incredible. The bar kept coming with the Sidecars! And thanks to Steve, everything was on point! I'm glad we chose Peli Peli to celebrate our birthdays!
I cabbage slaw was old, I will not be back to this particular restaurant my waitress was super wonderful, I do not plan to return however because I do not find the food to be that great the chair was broken here as you well see. I was also interested in the meaning of the Hebrew on the pictures has a 9 professional historian I do know that the black tribes of South Africa who claimed to be the original Hebrews but there's no explanation nor do the staff have any concept as to why these pictures head Hebrew language and what is the significance of these pictures and that they are saying that their South African restaurant
We had a good time here staff was very attentive and my steak was delicious. Peaches was our server and she gave us her favorites on what to get, made our decision easier. There was another guy working and helping bring out food and drinks and he was very accommodating. Overall the servers made the experience worthwhile. My husband steak on skewers was ok and cooked medium rare instead of medium but everything else was great!
The atmosphere was kind of strange. Not sure what kind of vibe they were going for in there. They were playing music that made me think of Africa. The waitstaff was quick and courteous. The food was prepared perfectly and tasted great.
Great experience! Friendly staff, greeted and acknowledged as soon as we arrived. Waitress explained flavors to expect when asked. Great family outing!
