Story

Founded in 1996 by Regina Held, Remarque - New Grounds is a resource for artists who wish to study and practice traditional printmaking techniques such as etching, gravure, monotype and relief printing. We offer affordable access to printmaking equipment and year-round classes. Remarque - New Grounds has won awards for its contributions to the Albuquerque art community, and it was one of the first completely non-toxic printmaking studios in the world. New Grounds also sells printmaking supplies, offers framing, custom printing and curating services. Publication: New Grounds – The Handbook for Non-Toxic Printmaking, written by Regina Held and Ray Maseman.

Connected to the workshop is Remarque - New Grounds Gallery which features original prints - both traditional and contemporary – by member artists and a selected group of international printmakers. Exhibitions rotate every four weeks and usually open during Albuquerque’s popular First Friday Artscrawl.

"Remarque's mission is to provide a safe, non-toxic facility for printmakers, to provide education opportunities, and to support and promote local and international artists."

My son and I took a one-day print-making workshop with Jessica Krichels and had a wonderful time. Jessica was a fun and engaging teacher and really encouraged us to experiment. My son almost 14 is very into art and we both were able to create multiple prints using etched milk cartons under Jessica's instruction. Most of the other people in the class were older artists. The time flew by and we could have easily stayed until midnight oohing and ahhing over our new creations. I highly recommend this as a gift for someone who enjoys art and creating. When I think of the other things we spend money on going out to eat, gifts that often don't get used, clothing we barely wear this was an extremely good way to spend. Also, teenagers and their parents benefit from activities that we can enjoy together that aren't just watching movies and eating to remind us of all we still have in common without constantly getting caught in the dissonance between childhood parental needs and adolescent rebellion.
Very interesting stuff, lovely owners. If you're interested in printmaking, this is the place to go. They have classes, exhibits, international artists, original shows. Only a few parking spaces in front, so go around to the back for better parking.
Improvisational printmaking with Jessica K. was a blast! I had so much fun making my first ever monotypes in this workshop. Class size was just right for getting individual help from instructor, and I learned a tremendous amount in less than 6 hours. With two desktop Takach etching presses, there was never a wait to make prints. I live in Santa Fe and am so glad I discovered Remarque.
Such a great place! Great for taking fun hands-on workshops, and great for shopping for art too! Check it out!
