I'm a former student of Rye, from 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 as a Sophomore and Junior. At first, the school was nice with free MacBook laptops (with *insurance) and more technological studies. The dress code was lax (many questionable girls outfits) and some teachers were awesome. Mr. Blackhurst and Mr. Walker two of the very exceptional teachers!
However, i quickly realized that this school is nothing like it appears on the surface. The computers seem more like a scam, as the inevitably breaking chargers were $80 a piece (i was careful and broke three, my friend broke over eight) that alone costs a lot for a public school. Then a teacher knocks my laptop off a desk and it gets a small corner bend, $400 right there. The insurance, explained as covering "accidental damages" to my parents, didn't cover it. They then explained that any damage under ~$150 could be covered, nothing more (it was in the contract upon re-looking, but small and they didn't bring it up to my parents) When every part of a MacBook is pricey, $150 doesn't really cover anything. So now I've almost paid enough to enter a private school, and that isn't even the worst part.
Parents, please don't send your kids here. You'll be charged left and right, and i haven't even talked about how horribly biased some teachers are. And if your already a student, your best bet is to suck up to the teachers and don't roll up the charger (it just breaks it quicker)
P.S. If your kid is in Mr. McGee's class or Mrs. Van Oort's, change the class. They are the absolute worst teachers to deal with, and i'm not a horrible class-disrupting student. I graduated Houston High School (a much better Alaskan school) with a 3.81 GPA , as reference for what kind of student i can be in a good school
