We made appointment to have the smart car checked out for maintenance, because it was electric we had to trailer it. Got to the dealer at Morse Crossing and was told that the service center was a mile away. Was told we couldn't leave the truck, trailer there so we had to maneuver 60 ft of truck trailer around parking lot. We get to the service center and was asked why we just didn't drive the smart here from the dealer? We were told we couldn't leave the truck trailer there! Totally frustrated with this whole maintenance schedule. Never bringing it back!
I purchased a 2015 smart car in October 2017 from the CarMax across the street. They identified that the car had an outstanding recall during the purchase process. Within a week of purchase, I contacted the smart dealership by email or rather, a form on their website since there was no direct email published anywhere on the site to schedule the recall repair. No one ever responded. As I was busy teaching two college classes in addition to working a full time job, I left the repair until the semester break. In December, I used the online scheduler to make an appointment for the recall. I did this on December 8th. The appointment was for December 23rd. When I arrived on the 23rd, I was greeted warmly by all staff present and directed to the waiting area. After approximately 30 minutes, I was advised that the part was not in stock and I would need to reschedule. There was limited availability, understandably, during the holidays. I was further advised that they do not do recall repairs on Fridays the 23rd was a Friday, so I could not schedule for those days. This left me with scheduling on my 40th birthday. Oh, well, that’s the adulting breaks, right? I made a medical appointment for later in the day since a relaxing morning was already off the table. Today I arrived ten minutes before my 10am appointment time and was advised that the repair would take 1.5-2 hours. Two hours and 25 minutes later, I inquired about the status of the car, as I was going to need to cancel an appointment that I would have had ample time to reach had the time I was given on arrival been correct. I asked for an ETA and was told first that they didn’t know & then that it should be done “by 1pm.” I called to reschedule my other appointment. The provider was flexible given the lateness of my cancellation. He can get me in at 4 today. Which means the appointment will end at 5, one hour before my birthday dinner. Hopefully I’ll get out of this place in time to go home and dress for dinner before my doctor’s appointment. Happy Birthday to me from Mercedes. Oh look, it’s 1pm now. Still no car or updates. Several Mercedes owners have come and gone while I’ve been waiting. Of course I don’t know the nature of their business here, but the cumulative effect of this experience is the message that driving an economical car and needing a free safety recall means your business is at the bottom of their priority list. Edit to add that I did not get my car back until after 2.
Excellent customer service!
