I stayed here about 16 months ago, a month before the Presidential election, one night when I got kicked out of where I was living. The price was not bad, 95 dollars for a queen sized bed. It's not that great and is a little dark but its not that bad. I had a scary dream about shadow people the morning I woke up. I thought the place was haunted actually. If you're down on your luck or need a cheap place to stay, I would go here.
I have never left a bad review before, but I have to warn others about this place. This was by far one of the WORST hotel experiences I have ever had. There was mold in the shower, stains on the floor and walls, it smelled dirty, and it looked as though the only thing that had been cleaned were the sheets. I was honestly scared to touch anything. I’m not very picky about where I stay, but thinking about being in that room makes my skin crawl...and I’ve slept in dirt before. It also looks NOTHING like the pictures...it’s incredibly dingy and dark. I also felt that the customer service was terrible. If you don’t mind the dirt and odors, then you’ll be fine. But I certainly would not recommend it to anyone; even the $170 I paid for the room which was relatively cheap compared to other places nearby was too much to ask for this room.
I only stayed here for one night, but my stay was absolutely fabulous. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. The indoor pool was amazing and relaxing. At night there was actually a color changing light under the water that lit up the whole pool in various colors. Also, a ton of clean towels available in the pool area for use. The rooms were very clean and had many amenities. The beds were comfortable and the room smelled clean. The guest services desk was very knowledgeable of the area. It's within walking distance from many of the major attractions such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Philadelphia Visitors Center. I will definitely stay here again on my next overnight into Philadelphia.
Horrible hotel. Literally like a nightmare. Dirty, stinky and smelly. We had a non smokers room but it totally smelt like smoke. Barely any AC. To access the bedroom we had to walk trough the bathroom every time. The toilet didn't flush. After I made a complaint to booking, when we came back for the night we found a huge poop in the toilet that neither me or my partner made. There were stains everywhere, the room was too small, the door was not secure and the windows were fixed with plastic and scotch. If you want to have a nice staying you definitely need to avoid this dumpster.
The location is fabulous and was worth the low price definitely but this ancient--230 years, they say-- building needs more attentive maintenance! Stair rug needs cleaning as did shower grout in our bathroom. Lots of little things. Advertising indicated it was a walk up 4 floors with double beds, but should warn the rooms are really tiny and quirky. Management pleasant and helpful but too removed from active engagement.
The hotel is very old and the owners should invest the money to preserve it or sell it to some one who can. It really is a treasure of its time period. I booked to stay 3 nights but checked out after one night. No hair dryer, lock on door easily broken, dirty, and I had mice visit me in the night. Heard rustling and saw my backpack had been chewed into to get to peanut butter crackers. I had to send all my clothes out for laundry when I checked into new hotel. The staff was pleasant but I still would not recommend this hotel. It is dangerous and dilapidated. The city should be notified.
Do Not Stay-Mice, Filthy. I showed up and had to check in at the bar. The hallways were full of random furniture and trash including a mattress leaning against the wall, old boards, and various random pieces of trash. In the room, one bedspread was stained, exposed wires were coming out of the walls, and the floorboards were chewed. This was explained when a mouse crawled out from under my bed while I was sitting. I did not stay the night to see what other horrors awaited. I would not recommend Anyone to stay here. It is filthy and likely a fire trap. This location should not be a hotel
Excellent location - within walking distance to a variety of restaurants and historical sites. The proprietor seems to kind of work whenever with no set schedule when management is actually in the building. There is a lot of potential with it being one of the oldest hotels in the city, so you would think at the nightly rate more would go into upkeep of the facilities. Mostly clean rooms, with a TV and dorm sized fridge. A portable heater and window ac unit was in the room. The beds were comfortable, but came with only a sheet and a blanket - no comforter or other blankets.
Well, I recently booked and stayed for 6 nights. Overall, this place is more suited for a weekend stay. The photos they post online are pretty misleading. The room was clean but, so small. The "cable" tv I paid for was also a lie. Was only able to get 5 channels. The woman at the desk on the 2nd floor was very nice and helpful. They're lucky that they are in a prime location, otherwise, this place wouldn't be worth it.
Worst hotel in the 3 years I have been in the Stattes. My wife booked in a mistake. I do not use to upload pictures of the reviews but this hotel 'deserves' it, because the pictures there are on Internet are not totally accurate. The reception is a janitor/storage/room that is always locked with nobody inside. The furniture, beds, windows, doors, EVERYTHING,  is very old. The bathroom was clearly not clean, the shower curtain was full of mold lucky us, we had flip flop. One window could not close properly and noise and cold get through it. Curtain inexisted in one room, in the other was broken and at 6:30 am the room was full of light. Bed sheets and pillows old hospital stamp included on them, did not fit well and had a uncomfortable yellow color. If someone talk or walk in the hallway you can feel it like inside your room. One night there was a cigarette smell in the hallway that got into our room. Outlets old, no lights on the ceiling, in the bathroom just one bulb. No trash can at all.
