So pork buns has become a trend in New York. Everyone has their own creations and Jum Mum is catering to the late night crowd and college kids. The price is probably one of the lowest although it is not going to beat Chinatown or Flushing price. It is also one of the most creative ones, which offers fried pork belly, fried duck and Korean BBQ buns to name a few. Each bun is $2.5 and if you get 3, it is only $6. I think for a normal adult, you need at least 2 and if you are a healthy man, you definitely need 3! We have tried the Korean BBQ, pork belly and fried duck. All three are pretty good and they make the buns after you order. The ingredients are well thought in my opinion. I do think nevertheless, they need to make sure the steamed buns don't get soggy from the steam. That was the only con I found. Another great late night bite in East Village that is great for late night owls!
This place is awesome!! The girls working there were so friendly and bubbly. I had a mushroom bun, which was very generous amount mushrooms marinated, juicy... I had a side of kimchi. I should have gotten more buns, but I was really just going for a snack. They have an eating challenge that I would love to see. When I was there we were trying to cajole one of the patrons into entering the contest. :- Definitely recommend. I'll try a rice dish next. The person next to me was eating one and it looked good. Perfect afternoon: yoga to the people and buns.
We stopped at Jum Mum just for a snack. There were six of us and we tried a variety. Pork, chicken, tofu... Everyone was happy. Jum Mum even expanded their menu to some soups. This is affordable where you can get a meal/snack for about $6. Not many people come here. Shop was empty and we were able to sit and relax. Food is fresh and excellent.
With stairs leading down to it's entrance, one can easily pass by this place on the bountiful streets of St. Marks. However once you're inside, you're greeted but a small space with a handful of small tables. The menu is simple with no more than two dozen item. However, most people come here for one thing, the buns. Now, I've had a good amount of these types of buns so I would probably come across as a harsher critic. I ordered the 3 bun combo deal for $6.50 and had the pulled pork, pork belly and the kimchi one. For all three, the flavors were good and seasoned well but I can honestly not tell the difference between the two pork varieties. I feel as though they use the same sauce for the buns which may be disappointing. The beef and kimchi one tasted different but was a bit dry. As a late night snack, especially after some partying and drinking, these are a good option if you're not feeling a falafel or a slice of pizza.
Only stopped in to try the sesame tofu bun they ran out of the pork belly at the time. The bun was $2.50, which wasn't bad, and tasted all right; the sesame added a nice twist to it, but otherwise not too much flavor unless you swish the flavored sauce/mayo-like stuff that comes with it in your mouth. Want to come back to try some more though.
Her name was Amy , and someone like her should never work at a hospitality industry. The order was put in wrong we got something that wasn't ours. When we told our server we wanted something else, she told me "no, this is what you ordered!!" And she turned in to nasty ugly person who stops talking to us, didn't smile, never said thank you, didn't explain the dish, show me through the plate on our table and ran away. We had to figure out to put on the syrup on ourselves. It was my friend's birthday. We wanted to have a nice finish to our evening and Spot, you absolutely ruined it. Will never return. You really need to do a better job at picking your staff and training them better.
My friends and I came here to buy macaroons and cupcakes. The macaroons are expensive and are not as good as many other macaroons I have had. The strawberry macaroon and cupcake was not good at all. The other flavors of macarons were all very average.
The most amazing and modern desert you will ever have. Simply delightful. The interior is super nice and just aesthetically pleasing.
YUM if you want just dessert, this is the place. you can take all but two of their options to go and they're just as good on the train
Good service. A wide selection of macarons. I like stopping by for a quick and sweet pick-me-up.
