Amazing happy hour special on all the mussels from 4-7pm, as well as some other menu items. The sauce for the mussels St. Arnold is so creamy and delicious I wish I could dip everything I eat in it!! If you aren't going to build muscle at the city fitness across the street, definitely eat them at St. Arnold's.

St. Arnold's is a fun spot to go for a date. It has an upstairs which is street level and generally more lively, and a downstairs (where we sat) that is like one of those cool European cellars where you get good beer and comfort food. The mussels are tasty and well cooked. The sauces are creative. We loved the Mussels St. Arnold's and the Mussels a l'Alsacienne. You can choose from about 20 options for the mussels and they have a good variety of other food like salads, burgers, meat and vegetable dishes. And, of course, a nice assortment of delicious Belgian beer! It's cozy downstairs, the service is good, and it made for a relaxing, nice dinner.

This place really deserves 2.5 stars, but I'm rounding up because my companions' food was better than mine. Let's break it down, shall we?
Food allergies? Don't bother. Won't customize, even for an upcharge.
Mussels: Turns out, all sauces are premade and sitting in the fridge (ew) waiting to put in a pan with mussels. No tweaking your dish here.
Mimosas: Very confusing. Served in a glass full of ice. Tastes like crappy white wine, not champagne and has no bubbles.
Waffles: Good, but *very* sweet.
Waterzooi: Quite good. No idea if made to order.
Service: Dive bar quality.
Bottom Line: There are so many amazing Belgian restaurants in DC, there's simply no reason to suffer through this one.

Service and atmosphere was good, beer was good. Thai Mussels were disappointing. Thin, salty and bland broth with no heat or taste of curry, lemongrass or curry. Probably out of a can. Beet salad had a few tiny cubes of beets. Really wanted to like this place. I'll come back for coziness and beer but not the mussels.
