ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, MARYSVILLE: After I visited this church I found out how old it is; on the placque outside it says it was built in 1855, making the church, 163 years old. Wow! It is remarkable that this beautiful building is still a functioning church. As I said, I only found this out later, after attending services there. Inside, as I walked in, the tall, open ceilings and wooden pews, instantly provide a feeling of spirituality steeped within. Undoubtedly, it is far more than the open space, the stained-glass windows, the beautiful aisle up the center of the church, the lecterns, and lights. While these things add to it all, the most magnetic part of it, for me, centers on the beautiful alter and cross above it. The feeling of peace and sanctity pervades the air, and seems to seep into the very bones of the church. I finally notice the women quietly praying the rosary at the front, and as I turn, I see the stations of the cross along the sides of the walls. These are just initial impressions, not a whole description. I've included a few photographs, below, so you can see for yourself, some of the beauty of this old, beautiful church. But you see, I think the real beauty, like most beautiful things, is on the inside. Praying there, brought me peace, and, of course, attending Holy Mass. If you are not Catholic, at least come and just look and enjoy the beauty of this old, historic church, and maybe stay awhile and pray. If you are Catholic, please come and worship, here. In spite of the church being so old, it does have handicap access. So, if you have handicap access needs, please feel welcome.

I love the story about Irish and German immigrants building the steeple on a much more simple existing Church structure. It reminds me of the richness that immigrants bring to our Country.
