Mission

Studio Theatre is dedicated to the best in contemporary theatre, producing an uncommonly rich and wide-ranging repertoire of provocative new writing from around the world alongside unique special events and inventive stagings of contemporary classics. Devoted to artistic excellence, Studio Theatre strives to present audiences with extraordinary writing, sophisticated design, and stunning performance. Our commitment to connecting actors and audience is built into our architecture, where none of our four performance spaces seats more than 225 patrons. No theatre of comparable budget size operates such exclusively intimate spaces.

Studio Theatre is also committed to nurturing future generations of theatre professionals. Toward this end, we offer rigorous theatre training for both adults and young people, provide year-long apprenticeships for early-career arts leaders, and involve emerging talent in the creation of our work.

We believe in accessibility and inclusion, and open our doors to students and audiences across the region through a wide variety of outreach programs. A premiere cultural organization in Washington DC, Studio Theatre is proud to make a vital contribution to our neighborhood and city.
