Washington Improv Theater

Story

WIT's mission is to unleash the creative power of improv in DC:
-We engage audiences with performances that exhilarate and inspire.
-We ignite the spirit of play in Washington with a revolutionary training program.
-We create a home for improv, connected to the life of the city.

For over a decade WIT has been exploring just how much awesomeness people can create together when they agree to do it without a script. The answer is: a lot. And more each year. The three aspects of WIT are shows, classes, and community.

"In residence at Studio Theatre for our 25th Anniversary season, Washington Improv Theater WIT is a nonprofit theater that programs improv performances, classes, and workplace trainings."

Grateful for the virtual classes at Washington Improv Theater during quarantine. I've been taking the amazing accent classes with Sarah Nichols and am honing my craft. She provides excellent guides for you to ace whatever accent. Highly recommend. Can't wait to take an in person improv class.
This was a wonderful experience. Each of the performers did an excellent job. A great event, great respect for the art form, and great individuals coming together as a team while maintaining their unique voices in a cohesive manner. Truth is comedy!!!!LOL
Went to see an improv performance of several groups and it was a great time! Admission is free, but they do ask for donations at the end to support the theater. The only downside is the seating is very cramped and there is not much of it, so be sure to get there very early!
A friend of mine brought me along to see a show here & I've been hooked ever since, including helping out as a volunteer or "operative", as they're called with keeping the shows running. It's great fun to watch & just as much fun to help out behind the scenes. There are a couple dark months throughout the year, but in general there are house groups performing consistently, including iMusical: the Improvised Musical. FIST is an improv tournament in spring- a great time to see some less-experienced groups early on; and the cream of the crop toward the end. Improvapalooza runs later in the year & is my favorite- groups just try out any zany idea: they don't *always* work, but usually they're extremely entertaining or I can at least admire the creativity. Neutrino is in autumn & is an improvised short film -- filmed as you watch it.
This is a fantastic experience. I was there with Friends on a Harold Night, which can be hit or miss and this was largely a hit. Great theater location and experience. Great sight lines and good selection of drink options.
I really enjoyed the WIT. The improv groups where funny and the crowd was relaxed. The beer was affordable and yummy snacks.
What's not to love about excellent local improv? Plus, they sell beer!
Have been to multiple shows. Always a joy and always a night of many laughs.
Great date night or just sinething different to do. Really talented group.
Show was good and there isn't a bad seat in the place.
