I'm a parent of a freshman - first impressions are that this is a phenomenal school. If you're smart, and determined to excel, you'll love this environment, as is clear from many of the comments. Teachers and other staff provide great support and encouragement to the students.. Thank you! Update #1: Freshman year almost over... and yes, this is an exceptional school (so long as you can manage the pace). The staff have dealt wonderfully with the ups and downs of the school year, and indeed the very challenging external environment (ie execrable behavior by some in politics who should know much, much better). Thoughtful, warm and kind, whilst setting high standards and expectations. Thank you again!

Great community where my son feels welcome. Lots of work, but kind people and soft due dates. Very hard to get in, but if you do, it has amazing education! Lots of clubs to join and groups to involve in. Love this place!

The normal interpretation of “length” has to do with how many words will fit on a page using 12 point Times Roman font, either single- or double-spaced. For a double-spaced page, it’s usually about 250 words. A 200-word essay, as others have said, is quite short. Therefore, the thesis of the essay needs to be quite narrowly defined so that it can be proven in a short space. Each point that you make is going to require at least three sentences, perhaps more. That will constitute a paragraph. Assume at least 60 words per paragraph. So, you have a maximum of a short thesis statement, 2–3 paragraphs, and a short conclusion statement. What I’ve written oof above is 116 words. So, you can see that the topic must be very narrow, your thoughts have to be very organized, and you must pay attention to writing concisely.

I'm an alumna. I think of gaining acceptance into Stuy as one of my most significant achievements. The standards and academic competition are such as to bring out the best in us. The result of our time in Stuy is the finest preparation for college achievement and, for that matter, for highest caliber life achievement. You are inspired and personally challenged, life long, to complete whatever projects you start with impeccable greater-than-expected end results. Congrats to students and faculty.
