Absolutely loved the vibe of this casual spot that’s right along the main drag along the water. Certain seats allow you to catch glimpses of the harbor, while other tables offer views of America’s Cup Ave. The twisty bread was a delicious way to start the meal. The Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich was nothing special, but not bad. Service could have been a bit more attentive, but overall really enjoyed this spot.
I Love this bar if you have an afternoon with temperatures seventies or eighties and want to feel the five of Newport this is a great place. During the midsummer when it's in the 90s could be a bit hot out there if you do not have an umbrella although they have a shaded area adjacent to the bar. I like the drinks here they are strong and about slightly overpriced but you are in Newport and it's to be expected. But again the outside bar and sitting in the sun on a cool day taking the vibe in from the Taurus and also the locals being by the water in the ocean great place to socialize.
Amazing Bite. Came here for a snack. Service is great. And even with outdoor setting, still felt private.
We were staying in Newport for a few days. We are from Philadelphia and the Eagles game was on, we started looking for a bar to watch the game. Lucky for us we walked into the Surf Club on Thames, what a find! We told our bartender Jess about the game and she put it on 3 TVs for us. She also recommended the special pizza which was delicious, same with the wings and fries. Best bar! .
A slightly delayed review so no photos, but wanted to share a couple notes. We ate inside, which was a nice atmosphere that helped me forget it was in a basement. Open view of the kitchen offers a nice feeling of trust. We were seated and waited for 10-15 minutes before we had to stop and ask a server if we could order something. Place wasn’t that busy so I assume it was just miscommunication. I also vaguely remembering not receiving water or needing to ask for water. I ordered a $15 cocktail that felt/looked like 20mL— gone in a couple sips; ask for no ice to avoid getting scammed by half-sized, partial servings of cocktails. Also made the mistake of ordering green beans and not noticing the word “battered,” so I was surprised when they showed up deep fried. Those were nasty, don’t order them; ended up in the trash. I saw some comments about undercooked burgers but mine was fine. Pricing seemed standard for the area, except those tiny $15 cocktails. This was just another mediocre experience during our trip, which became a theme. I don’t know where the 5 stars are coming from, I would look elsewhere unless your staying in the Bay Club and want convenience and don’t care about price. I will end on the positive note that I did see at least one mocktail on the menu so that’s a meager bonus if you are avoiding alcohol.
The pizzas are great. When you choose the outdoor dining option you have a great view of all the boats.
This place was great! It has seating options both inside and outside. More importantly though, it has the best vegetarian buffalo wings I've ever had. I'd take them over a lot of other buffalo wings I've had vegetarian or not. The pizza was great as well. I got their barrel aged old-fashioned and it was a great way to start off the meal.
I hate to give a bad review about service, but our server needs some training. Unfortunately, we waited quite a while in between her visits to our table. She was talking with her friends at the bar and rubbing the back a man’s neck as we wondered if she was going to wash her hands afterwards. She delivered one of our meals with chicken when we ordered salmon. She did have the kitchen prepare the right meal a and delivered it to about 6-7 minutes after the first two meals. Three of us paid the bill. Two of us in cash in one with a credit card. My friend who gave the credit card was told that the original bill was her receipt. We had to find her after waiting several minutes once again to get her to print a receipt for the credit card payment with the help of one of the cooks as we could see in the kitchen. She’s definitely new to waiting tables. Hopefully someone can give her the proper training.
Drinks were small and expensive but very good in quality! Blackened salmon tacos, blackened chicken tacos, and buffalo tenders were all so delicious. The buffalo tenders were especially good quality and delicious! Would go again.
Has a splendid atmosphere, I love their giant booths as well. Our server was nice as well. Ordered two burgers and a kid's pizza and a kid's mac and cheese. The kid's pizza was super cute they had two long trails of crust coming off it to make it fun looking. However the sauce on the pizza wasn't the greatest and there was barely any cheese and the crust was burned black in some spots. The mac and cheese seemed to be made from homemade noodles which were not cooked well enough and just mushy overall. The burgers both orders medium were pink inside but immensely charred on the outside, at least the bacon on the burger was tasty. Prices are on the higher side too but granted you are in downtown Newport. Probably wouldn't eat here again. Also note for families - they have an extra tall high chair available to fit at the booth table and provide kid's menus with crayons - but no offer of any form of kid's cup or straw.
